By ARTHUR COPP.
Bohemia, your name is Light,
And Joy, and Laughter true;
Before your shrine tho mixing cup,
Burned lives are made anew.
There, music and a tinkling glass,
And wit like flashing steel;
Eyes challenge eyes, and spell the words
Reluctant lips conceal.
Beneath your lights all sorrow dies;
With pipe, and glass, and song
Good follows meet, and laughing greot
Good fellows in the throng.
There minds grow keen, and eyes grow bright,
And wine and music sway
Beneath the lights that guide the path,
Along Bohemia's way.
But what price does ho pay for this?
For he who buys, must pay.
Good toll is asked of him who walks
Bohemia's gilded way.
What toll gives he who races there,
For lights, and song, and wine,
And sodden days, and whirling nightc?
Is it a soul divine?
Look closer at that woman's eyes,
Those eyes that sparkle so;
Do you tell me then, their light dies not?
Their flash conceals no woe?
Do you tell me that that powdered oheek
Blooms fresh beneath its pall?
That in that bubbling cup she drinks
There is no drop of gall?
r . 1
Go ask her if the price she gave
For lights, and wine, and song,
And twinkling feet to music sweet,
And hours in the throng
That walks and jests beneath the lights
That mark Bohemia's way
Was worth the searing of her soul?
For white heat sears alway.
Tho shadow from the lights that glare
Along Bohemia's way
Is blackest where God made a home,
And sad-eyed women pray.
