No 89t program has boon arranged for tire for mal opening of the Country club, which takes place today, which is just as well, as the course will probably be crowded enough without having special events to be played off. The greens com mittee, in fact, has not yet attempted to lay out a program for the season, and probably will not for a week or so, and but one good scrap is as yet on the cards, the one day handicap tourna ment for Decoration day. There should be at least ten or twelve cards turned in for the qualifying round that show less than 50 for the nine holes. The course is already beginning to look and feel like a real golf course, and it is going to be no easy job to fix handicaps for a nine-hole fight. A good match was played last Wednesday between Wicks and Holman on one side, and Packard and Igleheart on the other, the iormer pair winning two up in 18 holes. A dinner tor eight was the penalty for losing, and the caddy who spoke above a whisper during that two hours was very unhappy for a minute or two there after. Another game during the week was a tour ball match; Willie Hoare and Jack Gilmer playing against McGurrin and Copp, best ball to win. The latter pair won two up in 27 holes. The best ball for the holes was as follows: 34334352 431. This is interesting as showing the possibilities of the course. In tact, a 30 is possible ,as the seventh hole has been made in four strokes more than once this season. Willie Hoare had two 39s; McGurrin 40 and 41, as their best rounds. With the first tee placed in tront of the club house, and tho second, third and tourth holes changed, scores of this kind should be fewer, however. Both first and second, now easy 4 and 5 will very seldom show those figures with the additional length. Frank McGurrin has gone oast lor a two or three weeks' stay. And he didn't take his clubs.. A.
