A STCDKNT'8 SOLILOQUY.
"Happiness came in with the tea tray."
Thus, just thus, woold I ever he,
And feel as I now feel "after tea"!
Stretched out on this chair in social chaf
With my chum, who sits opposed on that! \
For now in a way I cannot tell
Things seem to have all grown passing
My brain feels a lightsome, moderate j
'Tis thus that I still feel after tea.
I can't tell how the -world has gone round;
'Tis not the same that this morn I found!
Forthen 'twas a scene of crowding cares,
Then appear'd a host of hard affairs ;
1 shudaer'd a little to view them all,
So many,' so huge?and my strength seem'd
But, as dull shadows at sunrise flee,
My darkness and zloom go after tea.
My Joy is none of your "heavenly joys"!
It rises up to no "rapturous" noise;
I do not think it can rise so high
As coat oi ine jGver ms aear one nijju;
It is not the "perfect heaven" of bliss
He finds in a real, rapturous kiss!
'Tis joy, however, enough for me,
A bachelor stretch'<1 out after tea!
I do sot think that my joy is such
As his who has taken what's call'd "to?
Nor "blest", nor "glorious", after my
1 soberly talk or quietly think;
My "elevation" is never shown,
To myself 'tis not much more than knc wn;
But my heart is light, and my thou ghts
And I feel j ust happy enough after tea. ,
Thus, just thus, would I ever be,
And feel as 1 now feel after tea!
I seek not to find delight in gold.
Nor the lover's extremes of heat or cold,
I seek not the stormier social joys,
