Here, for instance, the farmers supporting Ben Tillman, who is a protectionist, are boycotting tariff reform journals; because they a<> not choose to advocate Tillman's omthtught on the State government as the cause of the farmers* hard lines, or to join in the cry about certaiu favored classes dominating the State against the wish of the farmers who have four-fifths of the members of the Assembly and have ever had since the State passed into the hands of the Deinoeraov in 1876. It is hard to say how such people will be affected by "the plainest facts you may put before them, when a hurrah for Tillman will be accepted as the true remedy for the heavy burdens the people must bear under the grinding tariff, which, from first to last, amounts to some $9 to the inhabitant, whilst the State taxes Tillman would reform, or anybody can reform, amount to 47 cents to the inhabitant. The farmers' protectionist candidate iu tA }>? fArv.Pi'J (Irurii the thiwnfs <vf Carolina Democrats whether they would or no. and the journal that is not willing to eat humble pie and take Tillman and prote-tion in it is told: "I caunot subscribe for your paper. You advocate a course that is sinking the farmers. We are determined to make a change in the present government and it is the duty of every farmerto support the paper that advocates his cause. All the farmers in this section have endorsed the Tillman platform and will give him a sol d vote in the August Co?vention.M Why sabmit facts to such men? Farmers in other sections of the country, of all shades of political opinion, are fast finding out how I he tariff is eating them up, but these Sjutli (Carolina Democrats liave found {lie true and only remedy is Ben Tillman !?
