A Dream. In tlio dark silence of the night I lav As one smitten heard a deep xoice haj "Well, it is oxer," while my quickened ears ' fl Were filled with subs and weeping and atrange feara Of something daik, ajjue, terrible, unknown, O'erwhelmed my soul, thrust forth in space,- alone. Then came the consciousness th.U far nwnv Somewhere in regions of the blessed day Shut out from me, a point of light still glei med, Now two, now mjnads, like stars they seemed And I, impelled by one firm, unseen hand, Plunged forward, part ol a dumb, oiteless band. Anon 1 knew that etr by mx side There swept the garments of a spirit guide Not seen, but felt, yet was the knowledge kind, Kor I was lonelj for those left behind, Whose tears I hoped where falling still for me liven though fruitless must thir mourning be, "Oh. am I lost'" I cried. ' Na. na not so " Answered mx guide his speech was soft and low, 'Hut 1 am dead'' "Yes, if to die.' said he "Is from the shell of mortals to go free They call it death in that joor world below Hut latelx left, whose emptiness xou know." My heart strings seemed to break, and I awoke, While through ni) quiet room the sunlight broke In its first golden waxes and then 1 knew Thnt I had dreamed, that somewhere m the blue Of Heaven's promise there xxas hope for me. Tint I had not put off mortality - Hut since that hour though it was but a dream The blessed dead outside of Ifeaxen si em So near, so dear that exerx dax I lixe Unto their needs some portion I must gixe Of prajer, or kindlj deed or what max be Accounted as of merit unto me, Christians, did we number, as thex do The drear hours tint map their souls anew In lingering pains xxe would be svxift to lax, At least one offering near the Throne each day, To ease their pangs, to drx their burning tears Whose exerx moment seems a hundred ears. ax O
