December. " Cf P A
ON THE DEATH OF ABBOT BONIFACE NATTER, O, S. B,
O'er a Father revered have the ocean depths closed
And his sorrowing loved ones weep
Yet a heart unconstrained by the bounds of love v X
Rests well in the boundless deep.
In life was he clothed in the mantle divine
Of sweet chastity's holy vow: '
The waters which spurn foul corruption and taint
Are keeping his body now.
A shroud that is spotless and pure and white
They have weaved from their virgin foam,
An emblem that tells of the snow-white garb
That is worn in the Angels' home. ' ,
And the murmuring billows his Requiem dirge , v
Shall re-echo in sorrowful strain,
Till Eternity dawns, and at Michael's voice "
He awakes from his slumber again.
To the deep then we leave him 'tis God's Holy Will,
And the hope he has taught us shall be,
When the summons we wait for grim death shall announce
May we meet it as nobly as he. ' O'L.
