  • This 4-page literary miscellany provided its readers with reviews of the latest plays performed at Boston theaters, along with reviews of new books, news summaries, moral essays, biographical sketches, poetry, humorous anecdotes, and much miscellaneous material. Science and agriculture also received some attention. Beginning with the second volume, serialized tales were added, and when the new series was begun in 1824, there was less on science and agriculture and more material of interest to women. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
