We have young men in St. JohnH
that are spending uh faBtna they
earn, living only for today am
irivihir no thomrht of tomorrow
And by and by they will join
that great army of ne'er-do-wells
that Htand on the street corners
and revile at tho government for
not mak nir life easier for them.
Today anywhere and everywhere
can lie found these mun who
spent their youth and their young
strength wastcfully and extrava
gantly, who curse those who
have by their frugal habit ac
cumulated a competence. The
government is not at fault. It
doosn't create ne'er-do-wells. It
doesn't nlford a better opportu
nity to make a living lor some
than for others. The world is
before you, young man. You
can either become a man of in
depundenuu or a drone undeserV'
ing of aid or sympathy. The
opportunity is at hand ready to
be grasped. Why do you not
grasp It? You have your own
life to carve out for yourself.
None other can do it for you
Tako note that the fault does not
lie within yourself, and not with
tho government. You have a
much easier row to hoe than
your fathers before you. They
Know what htirilHhlps and priva
tions were, which you do not,
and yet they made good. We
doubt if there Is a young man in
St, Johns today that cannot be
come independent in 2o years by
his own exertions mainly. Buy
a lot in St. Johns, on the easy
paymont plan, Ur hotter, uuy
two'of thorn. Any young man
can do this without inconvenien
cing himself to any extent, In
a (lunrlor of a century that lot
may be worth from $10,1)00 to
mOOO. This has been the
history of Portland, and it also
will be the history of St. Johns.
liny a lot and hang on, Cut out
a few games of pool, a few
drinks or diminish your tobacco
bill so that you may place five or

Old ago will then have no ter
rors for you, and instead of curs
ing mo government with an
empty pocket snd a rented hub
Station, you will be Independent
and happy. It is so easy to do.
And never was there a greater
certainty. It doesn't matter
much whore you buy, so that it
is in St. Johns or Portland. All
is good, and all will rapidly en-
haiiue in value, it is the poor
man's sttlvntioii. Why not grasp

How different in method and
