On Tuesday evening; the dorao- rats of this place held a grand eelc- ration to ratify the election i their standard hearers, Cleveland it Hendricks. Two bonfires were nilf, one at the four corners near th e Commercial House, the othr on the four corners near the Dwfiio ilock and were kept burning until about 10 oVlock. Many were in from the country to see the first emocratic demonstration in twenty vc years. The torch light proces sion, headed by marshal Harrett and the band, paraded the streets, mak ing a line display. The music dis coursed by the fife and drum band, Leo Saunders leader, was immense and one of the leading features of the evening. The only thing detri mental to the complete success of the procession was the inability of procuring torches, Chineso lanterns having to be u.ed instead. . Anvils were secured and the air was filled with the peils coining from the same. Sky rockets were let loose to circle in the arena above, making a fine display. During the proceedings a knock down waa indulged in by two of the young men in this place, one of which will probably carry a crook ed nose heareafter. Wo have not space to make mention of the num ber of decorated buildings in town. After the proceedings were all over and the fires gone out, Dr. Gowan made a democratic speech to a num ber assembled in the Commercial House, tf lis being ended the crowd dispersed to their several homes. Taking all in all it might bo called a gala night. KEMAitKAnu: Foukmhiit. Farmers are not bringing in their produce very rapidly but are still awaiting high rates. Taking tho state men t from papers published in various parts of tho world, the prospect for higher prices is not very promising. Some of their town friends would like, sometimes, to drop in on them and enjoy their innocent sports. Mr. and Mrs. A. O. They will be greatly missed by their many friends in this place who join us in wishing them success. Tho democrats of PL Huron held a grand ratification meeting in that city on Monday night. A number of the citizens of this town took In tne sport and say that the crowd was the largest they "ever saw in Port. A big bonfire was indulged in and a good tlmenad. C. E. Itoswell having concluded. on account of poor health, to go out of business will close out his entire stock of dry goods, groceries, clothing. &c, at cost. Call early and secure the best bargains. Notice his change of ad. in this issue. A letter from a Dakota subscriber says: "There are lots of haru-up fnrmers here this fall, as wheat is bringing only 47 cents per bushel." Farmers in Michigan think 70 cents little enough for their wheat, but what would they say to an offer of 47 cents ? Having purchased the stock and fixtures belonging to Duflie's book store we intend to a2d a large new stock of holiday novelties to the same and will always endeavor to keep a fine assortment of everything in this line on hand. Do not fail to give us a call and examine our stock, we ex pect our stock on in a few days. Last Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. II. r. Leonard invited the young Indies and gentlemen of the ltapley House to their home where a pleasant time was spent. Our host and hostess spared no pains to entertain the com pany present. Here's hoping to again have the pleasure of attending as so ciable and pleasant a gathering. -The excitement of election is now over, so let us get to business. All are aware of the fact that this village should bo incorporated, and we would like to see this end brought about. We do not believe that there is a man in this place but would favor this movement. Let somebody start this ball moving and do not let it stop until incorporation has been accomplished. Tho New York Tribune aaya: "Jt is not the republican party that en gaged in the attempt to keep the coun try in a turmoil bv disputing the elec tion of Mr. Cleveland. It is ouly a little group of unscrnpulom politicians having everything to gain and nothing to lose. The sober leaders of the party and the great body of its members have no sympathy with these adven tures." An exchangi says that a Canada girl jumped 12 feet in her sleep. Hump! that's nothing. A Minnesota boy studied a hornet's nest into his bg sister's bustle, and she Jumped 12 feet fit a jump for 20 consecutlvo jumps, and she wasn't asleep either. Your Canada girls are well enough in their way, but when a Minnesota girl comes to the front the British lion goes into a hole and sucks his paw. Minnesota Bazoo. J. W. Avery, Itepublican candi date for judge of probate, made a re markable run, coming out with a plu rality of 72.") over his f union opponent, while the fusion electoral ticket was 555 ahead of the Itepublican electoral ticket. The chwm for this were nu merous. In the first plr.ee Mr. Avery has performed tbe duties of the office in such manner during the past four years a to make for himself many warm friends and suppoiters in the nppoiing party. In the Kecond place he secured the personal support of his friends throughout the county, and had scores ot them at work for him at the pools. At lat, but by no means least, was the weakness ot his oponent Mr. Saph, with the tusionists. Mr. Stph wasa supporterof Mr. Atkinson, and refei to bow down to the idol of Fusion except in his own indepen dent way, tho result being that hun dreds of Mr. ('irletot:a supporters re fused to vote for him. Tbe report that Mr. Avery arranged to trade off Re publican votes for Mr. Carleton to ex change for fusion votes for himselt we believe to bo without foundation. Indcea we do not think ho could have done it to any considerable extent if be had tried. That he did not secure the votes of fusionists in this way is proved by the fact that he ran largely ahead of his ticket in Riley, Kenockee and other townshlpi where Mr. Carle tou had no more, or even less votes than the fusion electoral tickeL For tunate circumstances, combined with systematic work, elected Mr. Avery by a plurality over his fusion opponent which surpassed that of the average of all other fusion candidates over their Republican opponents.
