November 24, 18D1, James Mason, aged b4 years and 3 months. Jhe tuneral was held at the house at 10 a. in Thursday, and the remains interred in Elmwood cemetery. Deceased was born in Scotland in 182. He moved to Lon don, Out. where he resided for seven years Four years were spent in Port Huron afterwards moving tollrockwav where he had charge of the flour mill for five years. Finally hemoved to the farm in Kenockee with his son where lie resided until his death. He follow ed his trade, that of a miller, for 42 years. Deceased was comparatively a young man and his death was a surprise to his friends. He leaves a wife and one son besides numerous warm friends to mourn his departure. Irobably one of the largest real es tate transfers in St. Clair county was recorded on January 20th, 1837. It consisted of tho transfer of a piece of land containing 583 acres, now known as Kutler's plat, and also a piece of land containing 62(J acres, all on the north side of Plack river, in the city of Port Huron. It was sold by John Mc Neil and wife, of Poston, to Simeon Cummings, of Katavia, N. Y., and the consideration was $175,000. Simeon Cummings afterwards sold the 533 acres to Chas. Putler, an attorney of New York city, for $125,000, and henco the name Kutler's plat. The first deed re corded in St. Clair county, that there is at present any record of, was a pat ent from the United States government to Alex Cummings, of Fort Oratiot,and was described as follows: The north east and north-west quarters of section 23, town 4, range 10 north, containing 323 acres. There was no consideration named. The heading of tiie instru ment bears the name of James Monroe, lTCsident of the United States. It was received for record by John Thorn, re gister, September 23, 1821, and can be found in book A, at the register of deed's office. Port Huron Times.
