"It Is a snap judgment," "It is noth

exercised by the president," and
"Justified by neither nilo nor piece
dent," und "Not binding upon those
whom tt was Intended to control," were
expressions used yestetday by a number
of "typos" in venting their fcelln3 of
indignation as to tho manner in which
a mcellug of the Typographical Uninii
was conducted in the nftcrnoon at St.
Josepli'it-Ilall. Tho trouble was the
ellort to cnfoicc the eight-hour rule in
Iho Government Printing Oillee.
Tho meeting was called to order by
President Itnmsey at ubout2:!i0 o'clock.
A lesolution was' offered by Mr. Burke
reciting tho existing state of affairs tit
the Government Printing Ofllco, and
taylng it was not expedient at.this time
to require Hie enforcement of tho eight
hour law in that building. Following
the offering of the resolution a vote
was demanded which elicited somewhat
of a 6CKsatlon, and cries of dissent were
heard. A motion to adjourn was made
and the President, notwithstanding the
demands for a division, declared tho
motion can led, left tho chair and re
tired fiom the hall.
An indignation meeting was subso
(Ittently held, at which Vice-President
Payne of flic union presided. Mr. E.
V." Oyster denounced tho nction of tho
picsident, aud Mr. August Donath said
they hnd got to meet tho eight-hour
question face to tace and settle it. Mr.
Hivenson stood alone in defending tho
action of the union for not enforcing
tight hours. A resolution was finally
adoptid that the enforcement oi the
eight-hour law was desired and de
manded in the Government Printing
Oilice, and then tho meeting adjourned.
