A story was told at tho Capitol today
to tbe iffict that certain Senators
vitally Interested la tho passage of

the minority would let tho Tarltr bill
go through without delay, they (the

They wero asked If they represented
the llepubllcan caucus. Tticv said
tbey did not. Tho Democrats declined
to entertain the proposition unless those

Tho Democrats, tho story goes,

done all they could in the mattor and
could effect nothing. In the meantime
the Tariff would be a law and the Force

The names mentioned in connection

"break up" the actors who were on the

In the last act of the drama, when

an Important first night In a certain
city, tickled the Jlomeo In a way that
threatened to galvanize tbe corpse and
ruin the scene.
In vain the actor plead for mercy.
He brought cvtry whispered argument
to bear upon JnlM to make her desist
in her playfulness, assuring her that in
another instant he would have to squeal
mm io urine ruucuie upon luem ootii.
The actress did not heed the prayers,
however, and continued to tickle him
as she recited tho heartrending lines of
the bereaved JulM. Suddenly the
actor chanced his tactics, and, under
his breath, uttered a string of curses.
Juliet stopped short In her lamentations
and trembled. Then eho went on and
Jlomeo was saved. After the perform
ance it was very dim cult for the actor
to convince the infuriated queen of
tragedy that he was driven to tho
heroic meosurc of swearing by hcrown
deviltry. She finally decided that her
mischief was more serious than sho
had fancied, but she declared that tho
oaths were unnecessarily violent.
On another occasion Miss Anderson
was living at a private house with some

was playing, and it was her regular
