received last night from Brownsville,
Pa , a place some sixty miles up the
Monnngahela Illvt r, that 100 head of fat
hogs being fattened at Hamburger's dis
tillery had died, and were buried In rt
trench. Or Iklward L Carter. State
Veterinary Burgeon, of this city, was
called, and after a careful Investigation
pronounced the disease as a case of hog
cholera of the very worst form
Meanwhile the rest of the drove
some 700 had been driven through the
streets of Brownsville and shlppeiFCast,
mainly to Philadelphia. It Is sild
many of the hogs dropped dead on the
streets, out were picked up ami shipped
with the living. Many nnlmnls owned
by the farmers In that vicinity have
since died. Tho matter Is now In the
hands of the State Board of Health,
but, owing lo the delay In notifying
the proper olllclals, It Is not thought
the diseased hogs can be traced.
