Another deal, which has created not
a little interest, not only In real estate
circles, but throughout the city, was the
sale of the Umerseney Hospital prop

just below F street, to the Jletrrotts. As
soon as the deal had been consummated
It was announced that the purchasers

of Architect K. I. Fleming of this city.
It was at first expected tnat the house
would cost $185,000. but the plana have
since been modified so ns to reduce the
price to $100,000.
Tho real estate market, which 1ms
been a trifle weak during the summer
months, was better during the past

an upwr.nl tendoncy once more. A
well knou real estate dealer states, how
ever, that the market Is nothing like as
go d as it should bo at this season of
tho jenr, nnd says that he does not look
for any great Improvement before the
first of tho year, llo attributes this
fact to a feeling among real estate
buyers that prices have reached their

the belief that if they kept out of the

If the market continued active. He be

not until I went to Paris that I re

actor T , because that is about as

the actres Miss A , because her

Slles A besides being perhaps the
most prominent character In the play,
was also the stage manager, and It was
she who regulated Mr. Y 's salary.
Now Y- bad long contended that
bis salary was not one-half rfhnt It
should be, and JIIss A declared as
firmly that this was neither here nor
there, for the salary would remain nn
changed. This condition of affaire dhl
not make the two love each other as
good Christians are expected to do.
Such scenes as these (behind the files of
course) became frequent:
"When are you going to rniee my

"Never."
"All right, then. I leave ytw to

That determined "never" was a dl

Y worked out a subplot In the
play. In one act he, the noble hero,
caitkd JHss A from a top story to
the ground down n ladder. One night
when this scene came on ho stepped
upon the first round of the ladder as

quickly as usual, as n vigorous. Invin
cible hern should, he stopped.
"Now," ho whispered In her ear,

"Never."
"Kalse my salary or I drop you."
Here was a crisis. Two things wero
In danger the success of the scene and
the actress' bone.
"ltnlse mv salary or I drop you."
The "house'1 was waiting. Miss A
