ABOLITION SYPATHIEs.-On the first page will be fooud a letter addressed by Mrs. Maria Child, the noted abolitionist, to 0ov. Wise, and his eloquent a81d charac ,teristic reply. It is more than possible that the fanatic authoress sought to damage the Governor and the VirgInians In the estination of the people of Massa chusetts by preferring a request which she thought he might refuse. If het aim was to make political capital out of the expected negative answer she must be entirely disappointed. As she has not seen lit to avail herself of the permission to visit, comfort and "sooth" old Btown, it is presumable that her request was but a part of the scheme for canonizjhg that i fcl',n and installing him, after hik execu tion, in the list Jf wartyrsa. The "shriekers" are already making prepara tione to celebrate, throughout the Northern States, the day of his exccution by asseinbliee, processions and harangues. They are welcome to all they can make V out of that punishment which, it is to be hoped, will not be too long deferred through policy mna oanged to a milder one through mistaken clemency. ThIaoPurn-.-The following hit at the I water cure was made by Charles LamE, and none butdlipnself could have made so quaint a conceit. *'J4 is," said he, "neither new nor wonderful ;riit is as old as thel' deluge, which, in my opini6ukilled more than~ ~ ~ itciri [1John Brown--His Eliogist aid Shis Instigator. . i t.
