Thongh the National Liberal ticl-. et has been , isastronsly defeated, ev e-'y lover of the State"of Lounisiana will be gratified to ktnw that our state ticket has been completely sne cessfnl. McEnery and the rest of i the Fusion State ticket are elected t by at least 6000 majority, and there i will be a large Fusion majority-per- . hIps two thirds-in both branchesl of the Loegislature We onght t, be satisfied with this result. The mlain stakes for which we p ayed in the late c.tnpaign were the control of the State government. Some of our voters were so intently bent on this that they either declined to vote the Natonal ticket at atll, or I else ca4,t their votes for Grant. ]'his is evident from the fact that. McEne 1y's mnljority is considerably larger than that of Greeley and Brown. The State government is now in the hands of honest men, and the respon sibility of its condition for the next four years will rest upon the members of the Fusion party. It is true that the patient i° almost 4 in arlieclo mo,tes and it recovery, even nuder the most skillful treat ntent, is extremely donbtful. Uuder the Radicals it has been so long sub jected to Dr. Sangrado'N blood-let ting treatment, thtit its vitality has been well-nigh exhansted. In four years the debt of Louisiana has ruin p to forty tm llions of dollars; her rich men I hare been bankrupted and her poor forced to leave the State; her rands have lain idle; antd emigration has t been diverted from her shores. All I this has been done to grat fy Radi cal hate and malignity antd to fill the i pockets of corrupt Radicals officials. Hence the task before the presenti Liberal goverunment is one very diffi cult of- performance. The debt and thile present eioru'ons taxition tire to be reduced; credit to be restorel; railroads to be built; and itnlnigra tion invited to fill up our lands. But we sincerely believe that the newly elected government is eqli d to the tIsk. They have ltonesyv, c:lpaeity ,old fidelity to the interests of the State. Let thenh set to work in earun est .o reltir t e ravages of the last four years. Upon the manner in ,hich they perform their duties de pends the question whether the Lib erals shall rettain ti power, or wheth er the State shall be relegated t. Radical rule. The Deleat of Greeley. THE IETUBtRING BOARD FIXED TO DEFEAT FUSION-GOVERNOB WARMOTH'S PROMPT AT AND MASTfEIILY STATEGY. Dny before yesterday the Return ing Board met, according to law, in the Governor's office, to act upon the returns of the la:e election. There , wetie present the Governor, Lienten- y int Governor, Acting Secretary of 1: State Ilerron and Senator Lynch. o After organizing, it was moved that P Lieutenant-Gc-.vernor Pincuback hav- " ig been a canudidati in the late elec- c tion, was ineliible to discharge the i duties of a member of the Retnrning Board. Lieutenant Governor Pinch- p back acquiesced in this decision, on c the presentation of the opinion of Chief Justice Ludeling that such was is the law, and re;ired from the Board. t' A like motion was made in regard 'I to Senator Anderson. Thereupon, Governor Warnotlh suggested that I as Senator Anderson was absent, it n would be better to postpone action in his case until he could reach the ciry. During the setting, Senator Lynch declar' d his pur'pse to be to reject c all the retun s flo the parishes and at polls of the city which were charged I to be flandulent and illegal. It did e not nfee.l this intimation to put Gov elnor Warnmoth on his guard as to the infamfns conspiracy which had been cncocted to cheat tbis people t of their rights, and re deliver them into the hands of the Custombouse cormorants. He was fully prepared for their plot. Accordingly when the Board met c to-day, present, Governor VWarmoth, Aciing Secretary of State Herron, and Senator John Lynch, the Gov ernmr, after the reading of the min utes, pr.setted the certificate of An ditor Graham showing that Acting Secrttary of S ate Herron being a defaulter, he had been compelled by t the constitution and law to suspend him from the exercise of his functions on charges which would be eununera ted to the Senate. Accordingly, Secretnry of State _Herron was requested to withdraw irom the Board, which he did. Governor Warmnoth next present ed the commission, and the evidence Of his qualitications for the otce, of Colonel Jack Wharton, as the succes ser of General Herron. Colonel Wharlon was in the ante room, and on being sent for, plrompt ly appeared and took his seat in the hoard. f Governor Warmoth then proposed the namue of F. H. Hatch as a sub t stitutte for Lieutenant Governor Pinchback, which mot ion was adopt I ed by the- votes of Governor War n1 a h an i Secretary of State Whar ton-Senator L? ucht voting "No." It was further moved that Dn rant DitPonte be elected in place of Senator Thonias Auderson. These Unominations were adopted by the .Board, wherenpon Senator Lynch retired. The Board being thus com - p.eted, acecording to hbw, will piao Sceet d to its dot es. Tmus has been foiled as foul and infanluns a c(.i'nIhirey as was ever concocted to defraud the people of this State of their rights, and set asilde a lawfur and honest election.
