DEMOCRATS EVERYWHERE should inform themselves care fully alike of the actiofi of their party throughout the country and of the movements of their Republican oppo. nuent. A failure to do this in 1876 con tsibuled greatly to the loss by the De mcracy of the fruith of the victory fairly won at the polls. THE YEAR 180d promises to be one of the most interesting and important years of this crowded and eventtul century. It will witness a Pre iden tial election which may result in re-ed talislhing the Government of this coun try on the principles of its coustitu tionli founders, or in permanently lchaugiug the relations of the States to the Federal power. No intelligent man call regard such an election with indlil:.rence. THE WORLD, as the only daily Englishl newspaper publ'ish ed in the city of New Yotk' tvhich up holds the doctrines of cnstitutional l)emnocracy, will steadily represent the Democratic party in this great cat vans. It will do this in no spirit of sei vile partisanshlp, but tenmperatel. and firmly. As at newspap.er THE \VORI4t), being the organ of no man. no clique and no interest, will prescnt the fullest and the fairst picture it can make of each day's passing history in the city, the State, the connfry and the world.
