In some places the damage was very heavy. -TnH cholera is abating in Pa rin to' such an extent that 100,000 persons who had fled from the eoourge are returning to the city. ...A CURIOUS epidemic is prevail 4ag in Vienna, Austria. Neeting of the Board of Adminis trators of the Eapides Charity Hospital. ALEXANDRIA, LA., Nov.28,1884. The Board of Administrators of the Rapides Charity Hospital, hav e ing been duly sworn in by Gee. O. Watts, Clerk of the District Court, met this day for the purpose of or ganizing and the election of officers. Present: Jacob Geiger, Thos. B. French, Julius Levin and M. C. Moseley. Absent: Robt. W. Bring hurst. Mr. M. C. Moseley was called to the chair and the Board proceeded to the election of officers with the following result: M. C. Moseley, President; J. Levin, Vice-Presi dent; Jacob Geiger, Secretary and Treasurer. The bond of the Secretary and Treasurer was fixed at $10,000. The meeting then adjourned un til to-morrow afternoon at 4 o'clock. M. C. MOSELEY, JACOB GEIGER, President. Secretary. ALEXANDRIA, LA., Nov. 29, 1884. I The Board of Administrators met pursuant to adjournment, with the same members present as at yester day's session. The resignation of Mr. Jacob Geiger as Secretary and Treasurer was read and accepted. On motion of Col. T. B. French Mr. Mires Rosenthal was chosen by a unanimous vote to fill the posi tion of Secretary and Treasurer made vacant by the resignation of Mr. Jacob Geiger. The Board then adjourned sub ject to a call of the President. M. C. .MOSELEY, MIEns ROSENTHAL, lresident. Secretary. -THE Times Demoerat states that the largest cattle ranch in the United States, under one manage ment, is that of Capt. Richard King, of Texas. It comprises up ward of 800,000 acres, all under fence, and nearly 200,o00 head of cattle, horses and sheep. This ranch has been eagerly sought by English, French and Dutch capital ists, but the successful competitor is the United States Land and Invest- I ment Company of New York City, who have just concluded a purchase at $6,500,000 for the entire proper ty. The Company anticipate an I annual income of nearly $1,500,000 from this source, as the increase of cattle is about 85 per cent. As an indication of a more settled con dition of financial affairs, the man ager says that the Company's first mortgage 6 per cent. bonds are being rapidly sought at 105 and interest, and that the feeling nojv shown by American capitalists in this class of investment property is growing daily.-gShreveport Times. -THE Alexandria Health Offi cer, S. H. Rushing, M. D., is out. in an interesting communication, published in the Democrat, touch ing upon matters affecting the pub lic sanitation of that city. He re-, commends that pits be abolished and filled, and vessels used that can be removed. We advise the people of Alexandria to make the change, but in doing so to adopt a plan of closet building, receptacles, and removals that is decent, and under the direct control of the city and health authorities, or else they will always regret the change. -[Shreveport Democrat.
