The week has shown no great changes. Imports
have been liberal," money is plentiful and the pro
ducers of the interior find no difficulty iv securing
advances at excellent r:tcs for them. 1 ? In trade the
competition ia mm Illily s'.mrp. Tne Herald says :
" Many and loud complaints are heard upon every
1..i..il respecting the growing babit of adulterations
in nearly all staple goods. -. Tni-i habit extends Dot
ouly to mixtures > f various kinds, but to short
weights and measures. Coffee, spice?, teaß, B<Hlae t
spirits, soaps, candles, case goods, all como an ir
tlie ban of frauds ef some character. And while a
few of our ol.! leading grocery nouses are attempt
ing to establish a reputation for sailing none but
pure, unadulterated goods, they find it almost im
possible to have th.: work done to their satisfaction.
U requires constant watchfulness on their part in
orier to acooapUan an honest intention." Tliesub-
Jeetot wheat cleaning still acte much attention,
and il U evident ih.it buyers are determined to put
nji with no mora imposition. In frciihts and char
ters there is very little to make note of. The freight
r»t*s to LJverp 10J direct may be rooted al £2 Ub 6d
