I ramento— ss. In the Superior Court, in and
for said county. The People of the State of Cali-
fornia to DANIEL F. CROWLEY, greeting: You
are hereby notified that an action was commenced
in the Superior Court of the county of Sacramento,
State aforesaid, by the filing a complaint in the
Clerk's office of -said Court, on the 20th day of
APitiL, 1.-.SO, in which action MARY E. CROWLEY
is plaintiff, ,nd you are defendant. That the
general nature of the sctirn as appears from said
complaint, is as follows : To obtain a decree of this
Court dissolving the bonds of matrimony now exist-
ing between plaintiff and defendant, and awarding
the care, custody and control of ti e minor children
mentioned in the complaint to plaintiff, on the
ground of extreme cruelty on the part defendant
ml of extreme cruelty on the part f defendant
towards said plaintiff, and Irs failure to provide for
her and the said children the common nec-ssarics of
life. And you are hereby directed to appear and
answer, the complaint within ten days from the
service of this writ, exclusive of the day of service
if served on you in said county of Sacramento ; and
within thirty days, exclusive of lie day of service,
if served elsewhere; and you arc further notified
that iimess you so appear and answer within the
time above specified, the plaintiff will apply to the
Court for the relief demanded therein.

of Drainage District No. 1, passed at the ses-
sion held on the 6th day of July. ISSO, sealed pro-
posals will be received at the Office of said Board, at
Room No. 55 in the State Capitol Building, Sacra-
mento, Cal , until 12 o'clock si. on AUGUST 9, 1550,
for constructing two dams across the Tuba river-
one at De Guerre Point, about ton miles above
Marysville, and one about two miles below said
point ; also one dam across Bear i lver (the exact
location will be designated on the ground by stakes
with flags), in accordance with plans and sjiecifica-
tions on file in the office of the Directors as above.
•: : Each bidder must accompany his bid with a certi-
fied check upon some well-known and responsible
banking-house for at least five (5) per cent, of the
amount of his bid, payable to the order of W. 11.
Parks, President of the Board ; the condition being,
that if any party to whom a contract shall be award-
ed shall fail to give the bond as required by the
Board of Directors for the faithful : performance of
his contract, the check accompanying said party's
bid shall be forfeited to the State. . . . : ■
The party to whom an award shall be made will
be required' to give a bond, with two or more sure-
ties, to the sai inf action of the Board, and . ill an
amount equal to fifty (50) per cent, of the amount of
the contract, conditioned for the faithful perform-
ance thereof. : Seventy-five (751 rer cent, of the En-
gineer's estimate of work done will be paid monthly
in warrants drawn on the State Drainage Construc-

"-: The work must be completed within sixty days
from the time of signing the contract, and no Chi-
nese or Mongolians shall be employed in any capa-
city whatever on any work to be done. And no
material used in the construction of the work shall
he purchased from any contractor or manufacturer

nese or Mongolian labor. . Separate bids must be
made for the construction of each dam. specifying
the prices per cubic yard tor each class of work. : • .

Parties to whom awards " are made will be

the times and in the quantities demanded /by

fied check upon some well known and responsible
banking house for at least 10 per cent, of the

awarded shall fail to give the bond a3 required by
the Board of Directors, for the faithful performance
of bis contract, the check accompanying said party's
bid shall be forfeited to the State. -
I The party to whom an award shall be made will
be required* to give a bond with two or more sure-
ties, to the satisfaction of the Board," and in an
amount equal to twenty per centum of the contract,
conditioned for the faithful performance thereof.

is mentioned in the schedule, it must be furnished at
the contract price ; -nd if any less is required, the
Warden will only pay for the quantity ordered.
