Just before 8 o'clock W. W. Morrow, President of the State Central Committee, escorted Mr. Schurz to the platform amid the cheers of the crowd. Morrow made a brief introduction, reviewing Schurz' public services and pre sented Senator Booth as the presiding officer, who without any extended remarks at once introduced Secretary Schurz. For a few moment** the applause and noise of the crowded audience seeking to settle itself into position for listening prevented the voice of the speaker from being heard, and the Chairman was obliged to request or" der. When . quiet wan restored Secretary Schurz delivered an eloquent and convincing argument in favor of the Republican ticket, which was frequently interrupted by ap plause. At the close calls were made for ft nth and others, who responded briefly, and the meeting adjourned with continuous cheer ins. Secretary Schurz's calm and argumentative manner produced a most favorable impres sion, while his speech was sufficiently light ened by dry humor and Hashes of eloquence to keep his audience in a thorough good hu mor. i; ihii»i;i«lir Rcerpfiun of (Governor l'< i- Idas at Snnta Cruz.
