THE DAILY RECORD-UNION. A MYSTERY EXPLAINED. The following is from the San Francisco Bulletin of September 16th: The mystery surrounding the woman found (Iritting about in a boat in the bay last Saturday afternoon, and the disappear ance of the man who was known to have accompanied her, has at last been ex plained. Last evening Captain Lees and Detective John Coffey discovered the eirl on Eddy street and obtained from her tho following statement : Tho missing man is George Mueller, pi anist, for some tijne past employed at the j Atlantic Gardens at North Beach. He ! became infatuated with a girl named Liz- j zie, and subsequently met the young Ger- i man girl who was with him on Suuday last, aud with whom he divided his affec tion He seomed, however, to prefer Liz zie, but cruel parents came between him and the object of hi 3 passion. He then began to drink heavily. Last Sunday he called upon the German girl and asked her to go to walk. They went to Long Bridge and there took a boat and rowed out into the bay. Mueller began to talk very deepondmgly, and said that he would commit suicide. The water was cool, he remarked, as he plunged his hand into it, and would make a good grave. He then told his companion that he had been mar ried and had two children, but his wife was dead. He kept talking of suicide, and | wanted to give the girl his ring before he jumped overboard. She was frightened, and told him not to talk so, but he not only continued to talk of jumping over into the water, but rose several times as though about to put his threat into execution. The girl, however, pulled him back to l.io fciat, and he at last j remarked that he had not the moral cour age to commit suicide. His companion began to feel that the worst was over, and that Mueller had come to his senses, when she was horrified to hear him exclaim that there was a letter in his room which would explain all, and thereupon rush to the bow ■of the boat and plunge overboard. A3 soon as he was in the water, the girl said, he began to swim, and tried to reach the boat, but the waves were high and the wind strong, and the distance be tween them continued to widen. He then began to call for help. She tried to pull toward him, but found her self unable to do so. Mueller then began to swim toward Goat Island, and was in sight for a long while. For fifteen or twenty minutes the girl heard his cries for help, and then they Eeemed to die away in the distance. She again tried to row the boat, but found that her strength was in sufficient to do so, and so she tied her hand kerchief to an oar, which she held upright, and suffered the boat to float, hoping that her condition would be discovered and help would come. In the course of two hours she was rescued by Chinese fisher men, who took her to Hunter's Point. Under advice of a friend, a foreigner, she delayed givinjj any account of the affair to the police, hoping that Mueller was not dead. Iv Mueller's room was found the follow ing letter : StrKDiY, S-pterube' 12, ISSO. Dijar limn: Take all I possess. Sell everything. Put it into money and pay for the children. I love your s ul. I cuunot _n you, and this girl at •-mist suffer fur you. Goud-by. Do not let my fathe . Whether the reference to the other girl implied a design to do her an injury is not known. Mueller's body has not been re covered. Spirit Fashions. — A reply to a question given through the mediumship of Cora L. V. Richmond gives some interesting infor mation roßpecting the faahions in spirit land : " Q. — By whom and in what man ner i* a ppirit clothed upon his first en trance into the spirit world from earth ':" "A. — Tho spirit has already raiment : the Kjuiit id not clothed in external garments, fashioned as earthly garments are ; but af fectionate fricud3, spirits who arc in sym pathy, are seen by clairvoyants to gather around aud array the spirit. This process of arraying the spirit is really a process of revealing what the spirit has already. Grarmenta are woven of atmospheric condi tions aud spiritual substances surrounding the individual ; and your Bpirits are ar- I rayed in li^ht or darkness, in draperies ac cording to your state and condition. This arraying may be assisted by ministering spirits, who, briniiin,_; their love and char ity, enfold yoo with them as with a mantle, or bringing (lowers, cause tho3e flower 3 to -adorn your raiment as a friend might bring you an offering from an earthly garden. Th* substance of these flowers, however, will be found to be of your own creation, the result of your own earthly lives and j conditions ; and if the garments are in sufficient or shadowy, filled with holes or iinperft-r.tiocs, it in because your earth livt-fl have been such as to inweave in your spiritual atmosphere roliea insufficient to olotheyon with li^lit." After thk In ian.s. — The York Legislature has p»wed a law requiring the registration of all practicing physicians. Tr.n law also compels a practitioner of uiei'ioiiie coming from another State to prove lia stani' ing before the faculty of a New York medical college. Physicians in food standing do not complain of this law. In fact, they did » good deal to get it passed, I protection to the profession against empiricism.
