( Dickens senior and Dickens junior have both cac been on terms intimate and affectionate with wo the Bradburvs and the Evanses. For long years c the senior hickcns has done all his publishing Ua business with that firm, and, in course of time Mo and association, the junior Dickens has gained T< upon the affections of the fair and blooming off spring of the junior member of that publishing A 1 firm. Charles the first has thought proper to 1 dissolve his relationship with the great book es« { tabli»htnent; Charles tne second sees no rela» j W , tionship between the business affairs of the fathers and the love affairw of the children. The j senior Dickens is at liberty to leave tbe Brad. He bury, and the junior Dickens claims tbe same privilege of clinging to Evans. The son is be. j throthed to the young lady, purely and simply on his own account, and therefore disregards the paternal order forbidding intimate relations J between the families. This might have endod here quietly, but the father has sought to annoy the eon in seeking petty The young man was a candidate for at tbe Gar- J^ 1 rick Club on his father's introduction; but on his daring to love against orders, tbe father scored the name out of the candidate's book. This has brought the affair before the public. The committee of the Garrick Club, in spite of the father's proceeding, offered to elect him; hi, H bonerer, has declined. Mr. Dickens, junior, is a prottqi of Miss Bur dett Coutts, ana is at present in the house of Baring Brothers, prior to-being launched on hu ( own account. V; 1 This unceasing squabbling attracts particular attention to the Dickens family. Three of the O brothers are said to be either separated from their wives or suing for divorces. Tbe trouble between tbe editor of Jf<m&tho!d Word* and the publishers is said to spring from the latter not publishing in Punch tbe letter which 31 r. Dickens addressed to the Tunu and other ini- „ pers in reference to his discarded wife. "Who- an , ther or uo the partnership of Mr. Dickens nnd 1R Messrs. Bradbury & Evans terminates next May in the proprietorship of Jlousthold Word*, ul that time it will be offered for public sale, it is rumored that Mr. Thackeray will be its future editor. Dickens is going to start a new publication, to replace HungThold Word*. After much ditli- cultf and manv consultations with Messrs. a< foster, Willes, VYilkie Collins, and Albert A. 12 Smith, his cronies, he has hit upon All lioun<l the Year. [From the N, Y. Evening Post, March 31.] Henry Ward Beecber last evening delivered his regular weekly lecture in Plymouth Church, at the close of which he said he" had an b blc duty to perform. He then read a letter 12 which he said he had received from the editor of the Washington Xational Era, stating that a white woman and her five children, slaves be- g, longing to the late Judge Colton, of Virginia; bad, by his will at his decease been set free; but L through the counivance of his heirs, the wish of the Judge respecting the slaves was set at naught, and it was determined to turn the "nig gers" into cash, and send them to a southern, p market. To prevent this, a gentleman of Rich- P mond, Va., had purchased the mother and livq V children for the sum of sl,Outf —which, Mr; Beecber here remarked, at the price " niggers " were selling, was "dog-cheap." Her present owner had allowed her* to come North on her parole— to raise the which he had paid for : f her —to purchase herself and her children from slavery. Mr. BeecHer then introduced the slave. L and one of her children to the audience, and spoke at length on the "damning institution that stumped such a woman and her children as slaves. Lettuce, radishes, spinace, peas, etc., cul tivated in the open air, are already up and com ing on finely. Cabbage plants, 'raised in hot beds, are unusually large nndthrifty. Unless "a killing frost," visits our citv gardeus, they will be several weeks ahead of last year. We understand that lettuce, radishes, and cu cumbers, raised in hot beds, have already been served at table, by several of our enterprisiug private gardeners.—Hprinyfidd Journal, 2d. Scones Death.—A stranger, traveling on foot, stopped Thursdav evening at a house a short distance from PeVin, on the Delavan road, aud begged permission to stay all night, stating he did not feel very well. Leave was granted him, when he immediately retired. Not making his appearance at breakfast time yesterday morning, the hospitable proprietor of the house 1 entered his room to learn the cause, when he found him dead in his bed, having died appa* ; rently without a struggle. There was nothing found upon his persmfwherebv to identify hirn, , excepting a ticket tuaked "Mr. Hickman" for passage on the Missouri river packet Sioux to St. Louis, and auother ticket marked Hickman, , for deck passage on the Sam Gatv to Pekin. He probablv landed there from the Gaty that eve ning.— I'coria Tra/tfcrij't, )ld. Accipext at the Peoria Bbidge.— I The Sam Gaty, bound for St. Louis, left the Peoria wharf * between the hours of eight and nine o'clock on Thursday evening, with an uuusuallv large pas ' senger list and considerable freight. * There was ~ a strong east wind blowing at the time, and when passing through the draw of the first j bridge, the stiff breeze, together with the swift curreut that prevails at that point carried her against the pier, tearing awav her cook house, wheel house and wheel, together with much damage to the machinery on the starboard side, - the loss being estimated from three to live thou sand dollars. The cook house struck first, tear ing away most of the side and the floor, and de positing the stove with a good share of the fur niture in the river. In addition to the destruc tion of the wheel and wheel house, the pitman 9 was wrenched out of place and one end forced through the roof, the piston bent, with other portions of the machinery broken, the names of which we do not remember. One or two of the passengers with several of the crew met with very narrow escapes, but fortunately no one was hurt, although, a* mar w<»ll be imagined t there was great consternation when the crash touk place. —Peoria Trantcripf, od. A donation party was held at the North Pepin House, aud about twenty persons lr were assembled in tbe sitting room, when the floor gave way and precipitated them into the & room beneatli, together with a hot stove. One end of the joists rested against the side of the building, rolling them together at one end. The windows were knocket out, and the ladies were assisted into tbe street through them. Strange to say, no one was killed or seriously injured, though two ladies received severe contusions, and one of them was burned by the stove.— B*«z --e, ba*ha%D Jlrrald. , SmucK bt Lightning.—'Yesterday aficracvon, during the thunder storm which passed over this city, a tree standing in the yard of Mr. Ainsworth, Mas struck by the electric fluid.
