Tho opening for July was about the same as yesterday's closing, but a weak feeling existed and under" free offerings prices declined .,c more. Rains were reported in the north west which stimulated selling. Later numerous brokers commenced to buy, out sido orders increased and prices steadily advanced 3c above tho inside figures reached early in the day. There was fair trading in corn though the market was rather dull. The feeling developed was stronger and transactions were at higher prices and closed lc better than yesterday. The market on oats was wild and at times very excited.- Speculators who were free sellers on yesterday turned in and bought heavily. The feature was in May, which opened "firm and advanced 2jc on big miscellaneous buying, mostly by shorts. Offerings were not large and prices were bid up to 275iC The advance brought about good offerings and prices receded to 27c. but again rallied and closed at a net gain of c. There was a little more business in pork today with prices a shade higher. There was rather more doing in lard and the feeling was unsettled. In ribs considerable husiness was trans acted, especially in July and September deli eries. Early in the day prices receded 23.5c. Later prices rallied 7;(gl0c To ward the close the feeling was easier and the market closed quiet at about outside figures. The leading fnturos ranged as follows: Wheat May , .Tune July Awpet .... It lias seemed at times as if the entire pop ulation of the eastern and middle states was determined to settle in the broad inter ior valley of the San Joaquin, or in some of the pretty spots near the ocean, from San Diego northward to San Francisco. Almost everybody has been interested in oranges and lemons and real estate. Tho Santa Fe route, being the shortest and best line to the coast, gets the cream of the passenger traffic. But wo did not intend to advertise Cali fornia exclusively; we have another object in view. Today, if there may be said to be a "boom" anywhere, it is in the New South. Texas, which is half a south and half a western empire, has felt the rising tide of business push and enterprise, and, as a consequence, people are looking to Texas as they never did before. Are you going to Texas this spring? If so, why not take advantage of the one fare round trip excursion rate via Santa Fe route to Fort Worth? Tickets on sale May 7, 8 and 9, good 30 days; also on sale daily from May S to 2S inclusive, limited until June 3 for return. This is a cheap rate, made for the big show of the year, the Fort Worth Spring Palace, which will attract thousands of visitors from abroad. Our double daily train service to Texas ("Lone Star Limited" and Galveston Ex press"') affords quick transit and excellent accommodations. Through Pullman sleepers and day coaches, Wichita to Fort Worth, Dallas, Houston, Galveston, and other principal cities, on day and night trains. The time from Wichita to Fort Worth is only a trifle over 15 hours; the rate, in dollars and cents, is 11.30. Persons wishing to go further than Fort Worth can purchase excursion tickets from that point to interior Texas towns. For tickets and Pullman reservation apply at Douglas avenue union passenger station or union ticket office, 122 North Main street. W. D. Murdock. 139 20C Passenger Agent. Charters. One of the best evidences of the superi ority of Imperial and Tally-Ho flour is that inferior brands are represented "just as good.'' They are not. Don't be deceived. 130-tf Showed Him How It Worked. Exchange Fiend How d'do? Been any spring poets in here to-day? Ka! ha! Heavens and earth I What d'you throw that ink bottle at me for? Editor Nothing. Sit down. I just had the springiest poet in here that you ever saw. Ho was sitting in that chair you are in now, when suddenly he gave a yell and sprang about seven feet in one jump and bolted out of the door. Exchange Fiend What was the matter with him Editor Well you see there is a hole in the bottom of the chair, and under it ia a pin fastened to this string on ray desk, and I simply took hold of the string and ga,v it a fcudden jerk, jost like this what's the matter?
