Trading was active in wheat and the market more or less excited at times. Large local business was done and also more on outside ac count. The opening was weaker and for .Tnlv was ($Mc lower, eased off a trifle, and" then with some fluctuations became strong and advanced 2c above the inside figures reached. The advance was accom panied with some excitement and fluctua tions were rapid. Later eased off gradual ly lVfc and closed about c higher than vesterdav. August and the deferred de ferred deliveries till shared in the advance which -would indicate that the buying was largely on bad crop news and fears that the next crop may be disappointing. There was a largo trade in corn and the feeling was quite unsettled, prices fluctu ating frequently within dlc range .and closed H!?v better than yesterday. Oats 'were active and higher. Rather more activity in pork but prices ruled irregular. The inquiry was chiefly for July and it advanced $1.00 1.05. To ward the close the feeling was easier and prices settled back again 40(J45c but rallied 20i'25c and closed quiet. Trading in lard was only fair; prices 2c lower but rallied slightly toward the close. A fair trade was reported in short ribs, but the feeling was easier. Mr. Bowsei went to his cvfircoat pocket and got out a Email book and bojran reading it, and after waiting long enough to lot him understand ttat I had no curiosit on the subject 1 queried: "Something now on poultry f "No." "It isn't Hojler "No." "Well, what is it?" "I cn tell you the title of it, but you can't understand. It is a very, very deep work." "Oh, it is! You can understand a very, very deep work and I can't." "Naturally. Man has the stronger, deeper mind, of course. The title of this work is: 'Nature's Diseases and Remedies Control of tho Body by tho Mind.' " "Boshl" "What? What's that?" "You are too old to waste time on such nonsense, Mr. Bowser." "Nonsense! Why, it's the plainest princi ple of philosophy in tho world. The human body is but clay, the soul is immortal. The bouI is the mind. The mind ought to bo able to control the body." "Yes, in some cases." "In all cases, Mrs. Bowser. For instance, you stub your toe. It hurts. You lot your mind turn to something else and tho pain ceases." "Humph I" "That's itl That's the usual way of the ignorant ridicule what they can't arguo and discuss in a sensible manner. I havo often wondered if you really had a soul." "Don't worry yourself, Mr. Bowser. If I haven't got auy soul I've got some common sense." "Very welL It's no use to talk to a person brought up in a log house on tho edgo of a huckleberry marsh. I know that tho mint: can control the body. You deny it. I hope to furnish you with proofs within the week." He was to furnish them that night. Wo were about ready to go up stairs and he had been out bareheaded and in his slippers to see if tho barn door was locked, when he sudden ly gave a great start and cried out: "Geo mi my to Johnson!" "What's tho matter?" "That tooth tried to jump clean out of my head. Whew! Yi! Hang itl" He sat down to hold his jaw and heave to and fro, and I said: "Your tooth jumps. It hurts you. You let your mind turn to something elso and the pain ceases." Ho looked up at me with the glint of pound ed glass in his eyes, and was about to reply in kind, when tho jumper jumped in on him again and he seized his jaw and yelled: "Great Scots to scatteration, but I can't stand this! Get me some camphor!" I got him some, and after a time the pain eased up and ho went to bed. He expected mo to say something about "Control of the Body by the Mind," but I was waiting. I knew that ho wouldn't get off so easily, and could afford to give hirn a little time. I was just falling asleep when Mr. Bowser suddenly lifted his feet high in air and uttered a whoop which sot a neighbor's dog to barking, fol lowed by the remark: "Thunder and lightning!" "Mr. Bowser, are you asleep?" I asked. "Asleep! No I I'm dead! Say, thip con founded thing has come back on me! Where's that camphor?" "On tho bureau, dear, but it won't do you no good." "Oh-h-h-h! Jewhittaker! My stars and soul, but she's jumping my jaw right out of its socket! I've got to havo something dona for mo or I won't live ten minutes!" "Pshaw, Mr. Bowser have some spunk about you! What is a little toothacher "Grit! grit!" he shouted, as he danced around on ono leg. "I've got more grit than any seven families like yours rolled together; but this is awful awful! Are you going to lio there and see me drop deadP "You can stop it if you wilL Just lie down and put your mind at work. Think of some thing else. Think of being out in the woods at a May day festival beautiful flowers happy children green" "Green whoop ! 1 ! shut up!" he yelled. "Haven't we got any paregoric in the house V I had to get up and go down and stir up tho fire, and make a warm poultice for his jaw, and fuss around fcr an hour, and he finally grew easier. Then I said to him: "Mr. Bowser, yon brought home a book last night." "Never." "You brought home a book about the con trol of the body by the mind." "No, I didn't!" "In your argument you declared that the soul was the mind, and that the mind had control of the body." "Get into bed and keepstffl." "No, sir! You stub your toe. It hurts. You let your mind turn to some1 "I never said it!" "Mr. Bowr, what cured yoar toothache faith, imagination or liquids F "I I who's talking about toothache? Mrs. Bowser, you get into bed and go tosksp, and m the morning M have a long ttlk with ync We don't seem to be matd to each other, and the matter can probably be ar ranged to our mutual satisfaction and with out publicity.
