On tho 11th of August, 181(5, n man mid

the Fort gates. They had been convicted
of tho murder of tho husband of tho

ronxed her hiisliand to go to the stream
near by for a calabiiHh of water, and while
stooping to iill tho vessel the two attacked

AVith that fatuity which often appears in
tho cominfesion of crime, they placed tho

Tho neighbors, who used the water of this
stream for domestic purposes, soon found
that something was wrong, and a search

it must bo remembered that tho nntivo

never forget the shout, or rather yell, that
wont up from thousands of throata as tho

expression of mingled wonder, of Iriump,
and of contoinpl.
Tour years after this an interesting

declared that tho priests were sent away
