On Thursday, tho Oth inst., n luau wns given to
n multitude of invited guests nt tho residence of
II. It. II. It. Kcclikolnni, on I'.nima street, it being
her birthdny nnd tho occasiou of tho foriunl open
ing of her now nnd tlegant residence, A large
hi tut t with canvas roof had been erected in tho
grounds extending from llio maKai entrance of the
building to tho fence. This wns beautifully deco
rated with largo nnd i.mall Hawaiian flags nnd
Htroamurp, palm leaves, festoons of inaile, ferns
nnd othor nlnnts a orofusion of crenerv blended
'with red, white nnd blue. Tbo decorations were
urrnngctl tnbtefully nnd were admired by nil.
Grass was btruwn over Iho ground floor nnd ii
number of long, low tables hud been erected for
tho feast.
Hefore 12 o'clock n mnjorlty of the invited
guests were on the grounds nnu many inspected
tho new residence, uud tho hostess, who stood on
thu verandah, extended to nil u kindly welcome.
Shortly after noon tho people began to congregate
around the tables und remained standing, await
ing tho arrival of tho King nnd Her Highness
