Boston, bringing the first lot of iron pipes.

works. Up to this timo tho water surmlv
of Honolulu was obtained from wells, of
which there wero very ninny in tho town,
furnishing as wo then thought, very fnir
drinking water. A small lead pipe had for
some years sufficed to bring wntor from
Nuuanu for shipping. Mr. V. Brandon,
civil engineer from Boston, en mo out on
tho C'iurlen, and was employed by the
I Government to superintend thu building of
the reservoir (just above tho socotid bridge)
