Washington, D. C, Nov. 29. -The
merchant marine commission today
made further progress toward com
pletion of its report to congress.
Some attention was given to the
difficult problems presented by the
conditions on the Pacihc coast. The
commission regards American ship
ping relatively stronger on the
Pacific than on the Atlantic coast at
the present time, vet American
ships, it is stated, are being severely
pressed by foreign competition.
Statements of the subsidies paid to
foreign ships arc given in the report
and it is asserted that the continu
ance of the Pacific Mail service un
dor the American flag is very diffi
cult if not impossible.
