Wells, president of the Falrbank
Company of New Jersey, and several
limes a millionaire, is a prisoner on
ward the United States receiving
shipFrankiin at the navi 1 station.
Young WelU enlisted as an appren
tlce seaman in New York a little
more than a month ago and later was
sent to Newport for training before
being sent to a warship. From there
he was ordered to this station for
further training with n draft of thirty
other apprentices. He was granted
leave to visit his parents and was
directed to report here with his com
rades last Tuesday. All of the young
men composing the draft reported
except Wells.
Tre naval authorities located liim
in Philadelphia, and he was seat here
escorted by a master-at-arms of the
League Island Naval Station. Naval
officers decline to allow newspaper
men to talk with the pri oner. It is
understood the t several telegrams,
said to be from his father, were re
ceived by young Wells 111 his prison
today. He will probably be court
martialed. Young Wells, two years ago mai-i
rled Irene Bishop, a Weberan and
Fields chorus girl of New York. On
board the Franklin he is being treat
ed like other prisoners, with the usual
diet allowed men confined in the brig.
Thaw A 'Masher
After Marriage.

ed today that three months after his
marriage to Miss Nesbit, Harry K.
Thaw diligently pursued every pretty
feminine face ar.d form that caught
his fancy.
One case is a matter of Police
Court ncord, for Thaw was arrested
and fined for disorderly conduct,
while he and Miss Neshit were living
at Lindhurst with his mother.
Thaw, while strolling one dav 6aw
a pretty girl sitting on the veranda
of a humble home. He bribed a bov
to tell him her name, and then pro
ceeded to uersaude the cirl with
notes signed "you adorer."
Finally, ho began enclosing mouev.
beginning with 15 and going as high
as t50. The girl tnrned the notes
and money over to her father, who
untitled the police. A trap was laid
tor Thaw. The girl w.-s told to write
a note, makilltr an nniiaintmont

Thaw got this note and kept the
tryst.
He found the police waiting for him
instead of the girl. When taken be
fore a Police Judge, Thaw was recog
nized, and let off with a light fine.
Copper Finds Reported
Below Oregon Line.
A cave whose sides are lined with
almost pure copper has been discov
ered in the Blue Ledge mine, accord
ing to C. E. Monteith, a mining man
of Lewiston, Idaho, who was , inter
viewed by the Portland Journal when
he, was en route to his home from a
tour of inspection of the Blue Ledge,
district. The cavern was discover
ed by drifting from one of the tunnels:
It was eighty feet in length and
twenty feet high.
The district bordering on the California-Oregon
state line Is destined
to be one of the largest copper camps
in the world, according to Mr. Mon
teith. , Several hundred men are now
working on the various properties.
The , Blue Ledge mine, has been
bonded by New fork parties, with
R. S. Towne as principal, for $175,000,
At the, fame time it was bonded the
reports of the experts showed ore in
sight valued at $1,148,000, with net
value of 60 per cent of the same.
, The bonders have expended about
$125,000, in development work, im
provements and equipment, and at
the present time the ore blocked out
is estimated to be worth $2,500,000.
