Is the appointment oi a Tax As
sessor for Maui being held up be
cause Treasurer Campbell is iin-
proving the shining hour by mak
ing a political dicker? This is the
substance of a report which is be
ing circulated among politicians,
and the longer the interregnum is
ladling the stronger the belief in
report is growing.
It is stated that Cambel.l feels
that he may meet with some op
position in the Senate at the next
aesion when his appointment by
Governor Fruar comes up for con
formation by tnat body, owing
mainly to t1u circumstances which
surrounded the removal of Tax
Assessor Holt by him. Therefore,
it is said, the Treasurer is using
the opportunity given him by the
appointment of a successor, for
Robinson by trying to get through
a trade by which he gives the ap
pointment to the man the Maui
politicians want, they in return to
assure him the support of the Maui
delegation in the Senate. As Maui
has three Senators this would be a
tidy proportion to count on in time
of trouble Bulletin.
The above clipping strikes us as
being shctr nonsense.
Treasurer Campbell has the re
putation on Maui, of being an in
