summer vacation on Friday of last week.
Frnest Mose, the photographer, went
to Honolulu Wednesday. He is expected
back today.
J. Cockett was one of the passengers
from Honolulu by the Mauna Kea Tues
day evening.

bags of mail at McGregor's Landing
Tuesday evening.
J. Onishi states that his horse will sur
prise some of the others in the races to
day. Watch for results.
Herman Horn has resigned his) osition
with the Manhattan Cafe and he and wife
returned to Honolulu Wednesday.
Judge F.. II. Rodgers of Lahaina was
in Wailuku Sunday. He returned Mon-
day to the ancient capital.
Miss Ontai, one of the teachers in the.
Wailuku Public School was a passenger
by the Claudine Wednesday.
Dan Conway went to Honolulu Wed
nesday. He has been on Maui some time
in the interest of T. H. Davies S: Co.
Mr. P.. F,. liattelle, the head chemist
for the Wailuku Sugar Company went to
" Honolulu this week.He will return soon.
There were aliout two hundred people
at the Passion l'lay exhibition of pict
ures at the Town Hall on Thursday night.
" Charles 1C. Moore of Honolulu came
up Tuesday evening ou business and re
turned the following dav by the Clau
dine. Miss Daisy Apo who has taught during

vacation.
Rev. A. V. Soares returned to Hono
lulu Wednesday. He has been a guest
of Rev. M. G. Santos of l'aia the past
two Weeks.
Do not overlook the fact that this is
Saturday July 3rd, and iu-as-much as the
4th falls on Sunday, the races will be
held today.

dren returned to Honolulu after spending
a few weeks vacation with relatives at
Spreckclsville.
D. J. Whitney, a teacher in the public
school at Waihee was a passenger for
Honolulu Wednesday. Mr. Whitney is
successful teacher.
L. J. F.ekberg, the Singer sewing' ma
chine agent received from the Coast an
autocar which he is now using in con
nection with his business.
Charles Marlensen has accepted a posi
tion with the Kahului Railroad Company,
lie is a brother of Alfred Martensen of
the Maui Telephone Company.
At the Wnilukn I'nion Church Sunday
evening July 4th, Rev. -Mr. Dodge will
speak upon "The Church and Our
National Life." All are invited.
Messrs. 1". K. Peck, Geo. Weight and
John Vasconee'.los will act as Judges at
the race course today.. These men can
be relied 011 for npiare decisions.
James Smythe of Kahului and Miss
Hattie Kalino were (piietly married last
Sunday by Rev. B. ),. Kaumeheiwa. The
young couple will make their home in
Kahului.
Mrs. Rowland It. Dodge is sending a
few days at Mannaolu Seminary. Rev.
and Mrs. Theodore A. Wallrip are visit
ing the William and Mary Alexander
1'arsonage.
James N. K. Keola returned from Ho
nolulu Saturday, where he underwent an
operation for cataract of the eve. He
believes the operation will be entirely
satisfactory.
Principal and Mrs. Copcland were
among the departing passengers for
Honolulu on' Wednesday of this week.
They may visit the Seattle Exposition
before their return.,
The Treasurer of the County of Maui,
and the Assistant Treasurer James Love
arc two of the busiest men in Maui this
week. .They are issuing all kinds of li
censes from hack drivers up.
The Racing Association members hope
that the race course will be liberally
patronized, so as to allow them an oppor
tunity to encourage racing on a larger
scale by hanging up bigger purses next
vear.
Moke Kamaiinu was arraigned before
Judge Rogers Tuesday 011 a charge of

amination and was committed to the
Grand Jury.
President S. F.Woollej of the Mormon
church and his son, I. jy. Woolley re
turned to Ouhu bv the Claudine Wedncs-
lay. President Woolley has visited all
of the Mormon churches on the island
while on this visit.
Miss A. J. Gault, the principal of the
l'uunene school went to Honolulu by the
Claudine of Wednesday. She will leave
for ttie Coast for a visit to her former
home. Miss Gault will be given a letter
position in HouoluKi on her return.
A. j. Cromer of Lima Ohio was the
guest of Principal and Mrs. C. K. Cope
land this week. Mr. Cromer is on a tour
around the world and ran up from
Honolulu to visit his old friends before
proceeding further west.
Mr. A. J. Cromer of Lima, Ohio, is in
Wailuku this week as the guest of Mr.
and Mrs. Copeland of the Wailuku Pub
lic School. Mr. Cromer is ou a lour
around the world. He is a townsman
anil an old acquaintance of Mr CoH'laud.
Frank A. Lulkiii returned home Satur
day after a three years absence. He has

Mr.- and Mrs. William Hamilton left
Wednesday for Honolulu where they ex
pect to take a steamer for the Coast nnd
return to their home in Pasadena, Cali
fornia. Mr. Hamilton has been doing
carriage painting in Wailuku for n few
months.
At the Wailuku I'nion Church last
Sunday Mrs. A. J. Mel.eod nnd Miss
Akiau Ontai were received into memlier
ship. Following the usual service there
was held the annual business meeting of
the Church and Congregation.
Messrs. F.. II. liailey, D. II. Case, and
II. It. Peuhallow were elected trustees
for the next year. The Committees were
as follows: Financial: Mr. II. II. Pen
hallow, Judge Selded B. Kingsbury Slid
Rev. R. B. Dodge; Music, Mrs. Margaret
N. Field, Mrs. Geo. Wilbur, and Mrs.
I). II. Case Judge W. A. McKay was
elected Treasurer. All bills for the past
year have been paid and there is a
balance on hand for the new year.
Mr. C. D. Lufkin of Wailuku, Maui,

The Hoard of License Commissioners
for the County of Maui will hold a meet
ing at the public room in the Masonic
Temple, Kahului, ou Thursday, the 22nd
day of July 1909, at 2 P, M. to consider
the application of L. Apana for a Second
Class License, Saloon, to sell intoxicating
liquors in a one story frame building
situated at Nahiku, Maui immediately
aliove the old government road at said
Nahiku, under the provisions of Act 119,
Session Laws of 1909.
All protests or objections against the
issuance of a license under said applica
tion should be filed with the Secretary of
the Hoard not later than the time set for
said hearing.
