HONOLULU, August 21. The question of the tariff on Manila
cigars has been referred to the Treasury Department by Collector

reported seeking recruits here to assist in the overthrow of Diaz.
MONTGOMERY, Ala., August 21.-The prohibition bill passed the
Legislature. The law is sweeping in its provisions. It prohibits the
circulation in the State of Alabama of any newspaper or magazine that
publishes advertisements of liquor houses.
SAN FRANCISCO, August 21. Johnny Frayne got the decision

SPOKANE, August 21. A forest fire raging in theCoeurdo Alene
district has destroyed $2,000,000 worth of timber.
SEATTLE, August 21. An automobile dashed over u trestle and
