DETROIT, October 12. Twenty five thousand persons watched
the Pittsburg team beat the Detroits yesterday. The score was 6 to 8.
LOS ANGELES, October 12. President Taft was the guest of the

WASHINGTON, October 12. Unusual precautions are being

NEW YORK, October 11. Financier Morse must serve a sentence
of 15 years in prison.
HONOLULU, October 11. The steamer Claudine will continue to
carry mail to Hawaii ports. The contract does not expire until July.

he will be assigned to Midway for six months.
The Buddhist prince is due to arrive today.
The prospects for raising $100,000 for a new Y. M C. A. building
are favorable.
The Mongolia is expected this morning.
WASHINGTON, October 11. It is probable that Crane will net
get a China post owing it is said to his remarks relative to the Jap
anese-China war. His utterances were of such a character as to forbid
his representing a neutral friendly power. Crane was in San Francisco
and was ready to sail when he was ordered to return to Washington and
report to Knox. After an interview with Taft he went to Washington.
NEW YORK, October 11. Gay nor charges Hearst with betraying
him. He says Hearst induced him to accept the nomination and pro
mised him the support of his papers. Hearst then accepted the nomi
nation on the Independent ticket.
TOKIO, October 11. No credence is given the report, that the
United States will enter a protest against the agreement between China
and Japan relative to the Mukden Railway.

sence of the largest gathering ever assembled in this city.
DETROIT, October 11. The third game of the championship
series has been postponed on account of rain.
HONOLULU, October 9. The Federal authorities are beginning
to raid opium sellers. Yuen Chong's stirc was searched yesterday.

NEW YORK, October 9. British warships passing Governor's
Island on the way to their home stations boomed salutes, but when
the French warships passed there their guns were silent. , This might

NEW. YORK. October 9 Associate Justice Moody is in a critical
state of health at his home in Haverhill.
GLACIER POINT, October 9. Guarded by troops of 'cavalry
President Taft reposed peacefully in a hotel here last night.
COLLEGE PARK, Md., October 9. The government aeroplane
had its first flight yesterday. Wilbur Wright was at the tiller and
everything was satisfactory. The flight was successful.
