He was accompanied by Mrs. Kunewa. - J Mrs. Rodriguese, formally of Honolulu has opened dressmaking parlors in the Tarn Yau Block, Makawao. Patronage invited. ' H. B. Manner of the Hawaiian Trust Company of HouokiVu is in town this week lacking up fire, life and accident insurance business. The Iao Stables Company, Ltd., was the successful bidder for the mail cen tract for carrying the mail to and from McGregor's and Kihei. M. R. Pereira, the fortfian of the Maui Publishing Co., returned from Sau Francisco Tuesday, where he spent a very pleasant vacation. Charles J. Shoening of the Von Haimn- Young Company is in Wailuku this week with a very fine automobile, which he is using as a demonstration. C. Roendahl of the Hana store was a visitor to Wailuku Wednesday. He came over on the Claudine and took the boat again at Kahului for Honolulu. The Women's Aid Society of the Wai luku Uuicn Church will meet with Mrs. H. B. Penhallow on Tuesday, March 29, at three o'clock iu the aiieruoon. Mrs. I). H. Case and daughter return ed to their home in Wailuku Tuesday after a most pleasant visit with Mrs. Charles Artherton, a sister of Mrs. Case Hilo objects to having her public lands sold for the benefit of Honolulu. She may now understand why Maui was so sore about the exchange of Lauai for Honolulu's benefit. Dan. K. Pokipala, who for seven years has had steady employment as a com positor with the Maui Publishing Co., has resigned his position and left last night for Honolulu. A reward of Five Dollars is offered for the return to this office of two certificates of stock of the Honolulu Brewery and Malting Company which were lost near Hana, Maui, some weeks ago. Dr. R.J. liurdtlle and wife returned to Honolulu Wednesday after a pleasant visit to Maui. Those who heard the Doctor at the t'niou Church Sunday night consider themselves fortunate. Special Easter services will be held at the Union Church in Wailuku tomorrow evening at the usual hour of service, 7:30 P. M. A musical program has been ar ranged. It is expected that Mr. Chas. E. King will be present, and help in the service. You needn't take a trip around the world to have a good time. Just go to the l'enhallow's Friday evening, April 1st, and you'll !e entertained with plenty of novelty without the accompanying discomforts of a sea voyage, and at half the cost. Eddie Fernandez, the popular Ho nolulu baseball fan, is spending a few days on Maui. He will show at the Catholic School in Lahaina motion pic tures of the floral parade in Honolulu and of the volcano tonight, March 26 and Monday night, March 28. Pejury by Japanese witnesses in our courts has been so common and so fla grant in the past that almost no credence was given their testimony. A number of such witnesses have been before Judge Kingsbury recently and have dis covered that his Honor does not regard pejury as lightly as they have. . E. Dubose has accepted a position aS machinist with the Maui Auto Company and began work Thursday. The garage has been enlarged and power and ma chinery is being installed for such work as the automobiles of Maui may require. Mr. Dubose was until recently employed by Ew-a Plantation Company and comes well recommended. We believe in conciliating the newly arrived Russians. We believe thev will make good and we need them as material for future citizenship. The Portuguese people in Hawaii are not at all jealous of their new neighlwrs. Let the plantation interests treat the Russians well and everyliody will have something to be thankful for. A. Seta.' Joseph M. Ambrose left Wednesday for Honolulu, where he expects to sail today for San Francisco. Mr. Ambrose will visit San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Portugal and then will sail for Cuba, where he will probably make his future home. Mr. Ambrose was one of the brightest and most successful young Portuguese business men ol Maul, and will doubtless do well in his new iield of labor. Services at Church of the Good Shepherd.
