Florence Nightingale Dead.
LONDON, Aug. 15. Florence Nightingale whose name has be
come a household word throughout the entire world as founder of the
Red Cross Society, died here today. Miss Nightingale was born in
Florence, May 15, 1820. Her first nursing was done in the Crimean
War. She was frequently consulted by government commissions re
garding field and camp hospitals.
ST. LOUI3, Aug. 14. In a collision between a locomotive and a
crowded street car, three were killed and 20 injured.
COLUMBUS, Aug. 14. Twenty more police officers refused to
obey the mayor today, and joined the strikers.
WASHINGTON, Aug. 14. The Seismograph at Georgetown' re
corded a terrific earthquake shock today, lasting 23 minutes. The
earthquake is supposed to have occurred about 2,500 miles to the
southeast. -
CAMP PERRY, Aug. 13. Ohio rifle lean won the Herrick match
SEWARD, Alaska, Aug. Mt. Sbishaldin has broken out attain

.NEW YORK, Aug. 13. Ex President Roosevelt will surely at

SACRAMENTO. Aug 16. Governor Gillet will probably call an
extra session of Legislature for the purpose of issuing bonds for Pana
ma Exposition. . '
Floods Devastate Japan.
TOKYO, Aug. 13 .Floods are raging throughout the entire
country. Great tracts of land are completely inundated, Railroads
and blidges are destroyed, accompanied by great loss of life.
TOKYO, Aim. 15. The Sumida river is risinit rapidly, and the
thousands of families along its banks are moving to a place of "ufety.
The Kawasaki river is a raging torrent. Nearly the entire tretch of
country between Yokohama ai.d Tokyo, a distance of. 18 miles, is under
water.
CHICAGO, Aug. 15. F. C. Thompson of Los Angeles, became the
all-round champion of America at the A A. U meet. He scored 6991
points. No records were broken.
BEVELLY, Aug. 15.- The Associated Press continues to send out
the report that Speaker Cannon and Senator Aldrich will be forced
out this fall. Aldrich denies.
POINT ARENA, Aug. 15 The stewia schooner Phoenix's boiler
has exploded off this place, killing 4., The schooner was drifting help
less when picked up. " "
NEW YORK, Aug. 15. It is reported that Senator Fry of Maine
will retire. Senator Fry was first elected to Congress from his home
town in 1871, and has been almost continuously before the people
since that time.
SULPHUR, Oklahoma, Aug. 13. Testimony in the Land Graft
investigation shows that the hood 1 era would have cleaned up not less
than $4,000,000. as a result of their operations, had they not le-n in
terrupted by the investigation.
CHICAGO, Aug. 16. In an address here tonight Speaker Cannon
said he would again be a candidate for the Speakership in Congress,
and that there would be no reorganization.
OYSTER BAY, Aug. 16 Lloyd Griscom, will be the bearer of a
message from the Republican Party to President Taft on the subject of
party harmony.
SAN FRANCISCO, The fight for governor will be between Curry,
the present Sta;e Secretary, and Johnson, the anti-Southern Pacific
candidate. .
WASHINGTON, Aug. 16.- The Department of Commerce and
Labor has received a protest against the landing of 600 East Indians

HONOLULU, Aug. 14. Kauai defeated Oahu for thelpolo- cham
pionship. Score, 5 to 6.
St. Louis defeated the All-Military team here yesterday. Wil
liams, the pitcher, won his own game with a home run, with men on
bases. The score was 7-2. s
HONOLULU. Aug 15. Chief McDuffie has recovered a large
quantity of silver taken from the Grill by a prominent society lady.
It is claimed the laly is a Kleptomaniac. Name withheld.
Capt. Wall, of the Bhip Helga saya he. dropped his anchor in four
fathoms of water and that the wind forced his ship on the reef. He
says First officer Royal had an enormous appetite, but was well fed.
HONOLULU, Aug. 16. The Liquor Commission is busy looking
into cases of disobedience to liquor regulations. One proprietor was
reprimanded for drunkenness, another for selling doped whisky, and
a third was suspended for two weeks for selling liquor to minors.
Chas. McCarthy has sold the Criterion Saloon to P. Peacock.
Chas. Notiey has again recevied the nomination for delegate to
Congress from the Home Rule party.
Wharf Commission reports adversely to plan for government
ownership of wharves.
The Republican Central Committee will investigate the charges
against Lorrin Aifdrews.
Mrs. Kelapalanj jumped from a moving train of the O, R. & L.
Company, and probably will loose leg in consequence.

and accounts of N. Omsted. Adminis
trator of the Estate of P. Ki, late of
Koali, Hana, Maui, deceased, wherein
he asks to be allowed $96.10 and he
charges himself with $542.40, and asks
that the same may be examined and ap
proved, and that a final order may be
made-of Distribution of the property re
maining in his hands to the persons
thereto entitled, and discharging him
and his sureties from all further respon
sibility as such Administrator.
It is Ordered, that Monday, the 5th
day of September, A. D. 1910, at 10
o'clock A.M., before the Judge of. said
Court at the Court Room of the said-
Court at WAiluku, Island ot Maui, be and
the same is hereby appointed as the time
and place for hearing said Petition and
Accounts, and that all persons interested
may then and there appear and show
cause, if any they have, why the same
should not be grunted, and may present
evidence as to who are entitled to the
said property. And that notice of this
Order, in the English language, be pub
lished in the "Maui News," a weekly
newspaper printed and published in Wai
luku, for three successive weeks, the last
publication to be not less than two weeks
previous to the time therein appointed
for said hearing.
