HONOLULU, April 11. No word has been rececived from the
Senator. Craig w ill fight his case in the District court Wednesday.
The law will afterwards he tested in the Supreme Court.
Stodard leaves the management of McBryde plantation. He will
be succeeded by Frank Alexander.
Towse opposed the direct primary law in tho meeting last night

A bitter fight was made over the direct tax bill. It was charged
that the bill had been railroaded throueh the committee. Watkins
made some sarcastic remarks and was called down by the Speaker.
The governor has vetoed the military bill regarding the amount
of pay for officers and men in active service.
HONOLULU, April 10. The steamer Senator left yesterday with
out clearing. She was reported by the tugboat Captain as lavine off
Waimanalo last night. It is believed theif intention ia to attempt a
raid on the plantations of Maui and Hawaii. They have about 150
laborers on hoard. Craig was arrested yesterday. WarrantB are out
for the Captain and J. S. Bell. The territorial authorities were open
ly defied yesterday when Sheriff Henry was not allowed to board the
steamer, where he went to serve official papers. Tho Captain said no
one but a United States marshal would.be allowed on board. The-
United States authorities are not prepared to act yet. i
Fairchild led the attack of the government land and water policy
Saturday. He said the homestead question was a faker.
Two poi shops were closed yesterday by City Physician Maekall.
A Chinaman was killed at Wahiawa Saturday by a dynamite ex
plosion in his house.
The Direct Primary bill will come up in the Senate this morning.
HONOLULU, April 8. The Rapid Transit franchise has been ex
tended, five cent fares are to prevail. The tracks are to be extended
to 20th Avenue.
Great excitement exists over the labor situation. Breckons has
been retained to assist Watson, by the Canneries people. About 125
men have been taken on board the Senator. Capt. Miller and Mc
Eldowney have been arrested for aiding and abetting the recruiters.
The harbor is being patrolled night and day by police launches, to
prevent any other persons going on board the Senator.
The Federal court may step in and recover the minors taken on
board the Senator without consent of parents. Hind Rolph cables
that the men landed in San Francisco have jumped their contract8)
and are willing to return if their fare is paid.
Investigation into the Hilo School scandal depends upon the
report of Superintendent Pope.
Tom Johnson Dead.
CLEVELAND, April 11. Tom Johnson, the reform mayor of this
city is dead.
Ed. Tom Loftin Johnson was born at Georgetown, Ky., July 18,
1854. He started his career as a railway clerk. He later acquired
large interests in Cleveland and other cities. He has long heen a
prominent Democrat, and has been mayor of Cleveland since 1901.
In the fall of 1903, he was Democratic candidate for governor of Ohio,
but was defeated ft

MEXIOALI, April 10. Four hundred rurals, with a mountain
gun attacked the bands of rebels under Stanley Williams, and wiped
them out. Less than 20 escaped.
CHIHUAHUA, April 10. The objective point of Madero is
Jaurez. He is anxious to hold the border cities.
