HONOLULU, April 25. Evidence in the Richmond inquiry is
very sensational. Detail! given by Mrs. Compton yesterday unlit for
publication. .She withdrew charges against Miss Sandry when pressed
for particulars. Mrs. Lewis testified that Mrs. Compton declared she
would wreck the school and ruin Richmond.

HONOLULU, April 24. The Hilo School inquiry continued all
day Saturday. Mrs. Compton expressed herself in terms which seemed
not to have strengthened her case. Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Lewis are
accused of slander.
Henry Bissen, formerly of Wailuku, fell from the coping of the
Y. M. C. A. building Saturday, and was instantly killed.
By a unanimous vote the House has adopted a resolution calling
for $250,000 for reclamation work.
The S. S. Oteric may leave on giving a bond for $15,000.
The Hoard of Health say they will begin a genuine crusade against
pest holes.
The governor will call a meeting to discuss plans for entertaining

HONOLULU, April 22. At a citizens mass meeting last night,
the passage of nn urgency fund was advocated. It received the unani
mous support of all support.
A compromise bill regarding the Kilauea park will probably pass
the House. A 1000 acre pasture will be left out, but the fern forest
will he included.
A special property tax may be required for a belt road project.
The House has endorsed the Kau ditch bill.
Assistant County Attorney Milverton is being questioned about
his long absence on Hawaii without leave.
The Times Explosion.
INDIANAPOLIS, April 25. Arrests are being made at the
investigation of the unions for alleged kidnapping of principals in the
Times explosion case. The court has ordered that only prosecuting
oflicers shall examine the hooks of the Internaional Structural Iron
Workers Union.

Mexican situation.

Peace Prospect Brighter.
WASHINGTON, Apiil 24. General Madero has authorized Vas
que Gomez, his agent here, to negotiate an .immediate armistice. A
note has been sent the Mexican government. Reply awaited. Taft is
pleased with the peace prospect. MaUero denies he has demanded the
resignation of Dias. He desires peace, and will insist only upon terms
guaranteeing constitutional rights. ,
EL PASO, April 24. Americans at Acapulpo auticipate an attack,
and have asked for aid.
CHICAGO, April 24. Chief Dectectire Wood has secured the
confession of an accomplice in ihe Times explosion. A man named
McNamara of the Structural iron works union, has been arrested at
Indianapolis, and two other men in Detroit. They will be taken West
on separate trains. A quantity of dynamite and nitro glycerine has
been found in the house rented by McNarmua. The police fear more
dynamiting.

EL PASO, April 22. Government officials declare all pence nego
tiations at an" end. The demand to have Diaz resign within five
months is impossible. The attack on the garrison at Jaurez has been
postponed. Cavalry and artillery have been Bent forward to aid
federal troops.
WASHINGTON, April 22 The Arbuckle sugar interest have
asked the Ways and Means committee to put sugar on the free list.
The Chairman of the committee says the present duty on sugar will
have to be retained until a substitute revenue can be devised.
