Roosevelt Issues Challenge.
WASHINGTON, Mar. 6. The Roosevelt forces have issued a
challenge to the Taft men to put the presidential issue squarely, that
the people may express a preference between the two candidates.
LONDON, Mar. 6. Mrs. Parkhurst was arrested in a raid on the
suffragette headquarters yesterday. It is believed they' will' be tried
for conspiracy.
SAN FRANCISCO, Mar. 6. Schmttz has been ncquitted on the
first indictment.
WASHINGTON, Mar. 6. Arbitration betweeti England, France
and the United States has become a fact in spite of the recent disap
proval of the United States Senute.
Conditions in China.
NLW lOUK, Mar. 5. The coal operators have rejected the
demands of the men.
LONDON, Mar. 5. Thousands of railway employees are being!
discharged because of the coal strike.
TEINTSIN, Mar. 5. This city is in a panic. Conditions are ap.
palling. Anarchy prevails.
' PEKIN, Mar. 5. Tao Ting Fa is in worse condition than Teintsin,
where burning and pillage is rampant.
ASHINGTON, Mar. 5. Arrangements have been made to send
700 men from Manila to Chrna if necessary.
WASHINGTON, Mar. 5 The beet sugar men are protesting
against free sugar.
The Senate judiciary committee have approved the nomination of
Pitney for the Supreme bench.
The Taft men declare that Roosevelt is in league with the trusts.
Rioting at Teintsin.
TEINTSIN, Mar. 4. Rioting and mutiny has held sway, for more
than a day. Disorderly soldiers crowd the streets. A German physi
cian was shot down while leaving his home.
PEKIN, Mar. 4.v Martial Jaw has been declared, and troops are
being rushed here. Three thousand foreign troops are in camp, ready
for outbreaks.
MONTREAL, Mar. 4. Bandits looted a bank here, and shot and
killed the eon of the chief of police.
SAN FRANCISCO, Mar. 4.The launch Morning Star, with con
traband Chinese on board, was overhauled My a posse of deputies last
night in Oakland Creek. Three members of the crew and 20 Chinese
were captured. Seventeen escaped.
EL PASO, Mar. 4. Fighting for the, pnsxepxion of Chihuahua has

Sugar on Free List.
WASHINGTON, Mar. 2. The recommendation of the democrats
to put refined sugar on the free lint, has been considered in caucus,
and approved.
PEKIN, Mar. 2. The police are rounding up the looters. It is
believed that Yuen Shi Kai has lost control.
WASHINGTON, Mar. 2 Hitchcock said yesterday that Roose
velt was a party to ihe conspiracy of capitalists to grab the Panama
canal.
CARSON CITY, Mar. 2. Governor Oddie comes out strong in
favor of Roosevelt.
BATAVIA, Mar. 2. The Dutch have released the Chinese im
prisoned for disturbance over the celebration of Republican victory.

been appraised at $6,000,000.
