power of sale contained in Mortgage
dnted March 12, lqio, executed by Annie
Hauwahine Kealolia and L. C. Kealolia,
to the Young Men's Savings Society,
Limited, a corporation, the owner and
holder thereof, the Young Men's Savings
Society, Limited, Intends to foreclose
same, and sell said mortgaged proper
ties because of non-payment of principal
and interest now due on the promissory
note secured thereby. '
The above mortgage was given to se
cure the payment of a promissory note
for Eight Hundred Dollars, of even date
therewith, payable two years after date,
nd executed by said Annie Hauwahine
Kealolia, and L. C. Kealoha, to said
Young Men's Savings Society, Limited,

weeks from date of first publication of

the Court house, in Wailuku, County of

That certain piece, parcel or lot of
land situate at Palama, Waikapu, Island
of Maui, Territory of Hawaii, and being
all of the same lands conveyed to Anrye
Hauwahine Kamakele (who is now Annie
Hauwahiue Kealoha, oue of the parties
of the first part herein-by deed of Esther
Jackson, said Heed being dated April 1st,
1885, and appearing of record in Liber
93, on page 1 15 of the Registry of Con
veyttuces at Honolulu.
All that certain piece, parcel or lot of
land situated at Opuupuu, Hi of Keokea,
Kula, Island of Maui, Territory of Ha
waii, containing au area of l-'our and 85
100 acres, and being all ot the same
premises conveyed to the aforesaid Ane
Hauwahine by deed of Paakai and his
wife Kaialtilii, said deed' being dated
November loth, 1883, and appearing 0
record in Liber S4, on pages 264-26.5 of
the Registry of Conveyances at Honolulu,
said lot being now under lease to Chin
Hoy by lease of A. Hauwahine Kealoha
dated July 26th, 1904.
All that certain piece, parcel or lot of
laud situated in the Hi of Kaopuupuu,
Keokea, Kula, Island of Maui, Territory
of Hawaii, containing au urea of Eleven
and 95-100 (11.95) acres more or less,
and being all of the same premises con
veyed to the said Ane Hauwahine by
deed of T. Kalaau, said deed being Dec.
20th, 1883, and appearing of record in
Liber 85, on pages 477 and 478 of the
Registry of Couveyances at Honolulu.
Ten acres of which said property is now
under lease to Tan Kui by lease executed
by A. Hauwahine Kealoha bearing date
the 26th day of July 1904.
All that certain piece, parcel or lot of
land situated in the Hi of I'iinioo, Keo
kea, Kula, Island of Maui, Territory of
Hawaii, containing an area of Eight and
11-100(8.11) acres more or less, and
being all of the same premises conveyed
to the said Ane Hauwahine by deed of
G. S. Kalama dated the 23rd day of
February 1884 and appearing of record
in Liber 85, on pages 476-477 of the Re
gistry of Conveyances at Honolulu.
. All of that certain piece, parcel or lot
of laud situate at Ahulua, Waiohuli,
Kula, County of Maui, Territory of
Hawaii, containing an area of One and
86-100 (1.86) Acres more or less, more
fully described in deed of James L. Coke,
Administrator of the Estate of J. Kama
kele, Deceased to Annie Hauwahine
Kealoha, dated the 4th day of February
A. D. 1910, and recorded simultaneous
with this instrument.

laud situate at Keokea, Kula, Island of
Maui, Territory of Hawaii, containing
au area of One and 70-100(1.70) Acres,
described in deed of Haili Kauiaka to A.

266 on pages 15 and 16 of the Registry of

Everybody knows that to build walls
and chimneys you must have sand.
Perhaps that was the reason why
Grandfather Sharp founded the town
of Shurpsvllle where he did. There
were hills around It, and those hills
were full of Baud and gravel. For
thirty years every man that built
house or hud need of sand was free to
dig Into any hill and help hlniBelf to
all he wanted.
Shnrpsville had got to be a town of
1,500 people and was Jogging along In a
humdrum way when a great and sud
den change swooped down on it A
railroad decided to come that way; a
shoe manufacturer decided to erect a
big factory theTe: It was a fine site for
a chair factory, and as the country
around was agricultural a cannery was
to be established. In a sly, secret way,
sites were purchased and then came
the announcements that fairly made
the town stand on Its head. All the
sandpits were bought up except rme.
There were ten acres of that, and It
was owned by a spinster named Han
nah Goodhue.
Three or four different times Mfes
Goodhue had offered to sell those ten
acres for $50. Nothing but sorrel and
mullein stocks would grow on the sandy
surface, and nobody could tell wheth
er the material below amounted to
anything. Not over 100 cart loads of
snnd had ever been taken out. as
there was plenty to be had nearer.
The land buyers Inspected the sand,
pronounced it good and offered $50 for
the ten acres. They would have got it
but for old Ezra Johnson, one of the
old pioneers of the town, who bad
known the spinster since her . birth.
He had overheard some talk and be
called on her to advise.
"Hanner. I hear you are goln' to
sell them ten acres for $50. Don't you
do It."
"But why?"
"I've got a sseakin' idea that the
other sand pits are peterin out I
know Taylor's is, and Johnson's never
did amount to much. There's going to
be a terrible pile of sand used here,
and if it turns out that you've got the
only pit you can get your own' price
for it Jest bang on for awhile any
way."
"Well, if you think so."
"I surely do. Say, Hanner, you know
I was a widower ten year ago?"
"Tes."
"I kinder nun around here for a
spelL"
Hannah looked embarrassed.
"Guess rnebbe you thought I wns
after you?"
"Why. Mr. Johnson!"
"To be honest with you, I was after
you. but them relations or mine tniueu r;

"But I never even dreamed of mar
rying you!" exclaimed the blushing
spinster.
"Tut. tut! It's all right, however.

the trick."
"But but I don't want to marry!"
"Oh, yes, you do! This pokin' around
alone hain't good for folks. You Jest
refuse to sell that land at any price,
but throw out a strong hint that when
you have a husband he can do as be
will about sellln'. Now, don't be skit
tish about it . Every woman on airth
is entitled to a husband. If he don't
come through love make him come
through ten acres of sand. Love and
sand will mix all right after a bit
Mind what I tell you. I orter married
you myself, but I'm doin' the next best
thing, if not the best"
Now and then Ezra Johnson met Miss
Goodhue on the street and winked at
her. and when he Judged the time ripe
be went to the president of the big shoe
concern, who was tearing bis hair In
anxiety, and asked:
"Do you want to git bolt of Mls
Goodhue's sand lots?"
"Do I want to?" was shouted in re
ply. "Why, man, you may go and tell
her that I'll give her a check for $15,
000 for them right now."
"She wants more than that"
' "Well, make it $20,000."
"No use to offer money not now.'.'
"Then In heaven's name what can we
offer?"
"Have you got a mighty good man
banging around a feller about forty
good nntured and of a loving disposi
tion, widow or bach?"
"I'm! Um! Let's see, Tes, I have

the day Is long. Why?"1
"Get him to marry the old maid, and
you'll got your sand all right No hus
band, no sand."
Then Mr. Johnson explained and the
foreman was sent for, and within two
hours the plot was laid. Was It a bru
tal affair? By no manner of means.
Why, It was the plainest case of doing
the rljrht thing at the right time you
ever heard of, and Cupid came ringing
the doorbell almost as soon as the prin
cipals had been introduced.
In a month there was a marriage,
and the town was bustling again. The
husband thought the land worth about
$3,000. and he got his price, and, though
Ezra Johnson doesn't wink at Hannah
any more when they pass, he does
chuckle to himself and slap bis leg and
exclnlm:
"I owed her one and hare paid it
and now my conscience feels Jut like
'lasses runnln' across the IJtcben
