THE MAUI NEWS, SATURDAY, JANUARY 11, 1913. Maui Will Be In Carnival Valley Island To Be Represented On February 22 Princess Will Ride In Parade. Mtiui will Ik- lvproHunU'il at the Honolulu Mid-Winter' carnival. That was decided at the meeting of the Chainher of Commerce last Wednesday. The matter was dis cussed at length at the meeting, and the general opinion was that Maui should be represented in some way. The "Princess" scheme appealed to most of the members, and they spoke in favor of that form of re presentation. It was felt that this island should be represented on the great day in Honolulu. February 22 is the day of days in the Hawaiian capital city and it is good news to hear that the cry of "Maui No Ka CM" will be heard this year. Chairman F. F. Baldwin named a committee of three to take charge of the matter. Messrs. L. von Tempsky, II. I'enhallow and E. II. Bevins will see to it that Maui is properly represented, and that our princess has the best mount possi ble to obtain. Xocals I Judge Kingsbury is expected to arrive from the Coast ou January 15. The funeral of the late William K. Bailey was held last Sunday afternoon. A. Mv Brown, deputy county attorney of Oahu, paid a flying visit ro Maui last week. The Paia branch store of the Maui Dry Goods Company is a fine addition to the district. VV. Leslie West and W. II. Field are the new Senior and Junior Stewards of Lodge Maui No. 984. The total cost of the new store of the Maui Dry Goods Company will run pretty well into $15,000. C. D. Lufkin is said to be on his ww home from the mainland. He should arrive about January 15. A. Prescott, of the Standard Oil Com pany, was in town for a tew days. "Pres" is known all over the islands. Chester Doyle, of Honolulu and Yoko hama, was in town during the week. He paid a visit to the Raymoud Ranch. Joe Leal, who was charged with speed ing in his automobile, defended himself in court and was discharged last Tuesday. NOTICE. M. This is Maui's share of the Territorial fund for the period. The supervisors labored long and hard over "the appropriation bill, and it was not till yesterday that the figures became available for publication. REV. WADMN AND MISSIONS Great preparations are being1 made for the big religious conven tion in Honolulu. The conven tion will start ou January 23, and end a week later. F. 1$. Smith and M. A. Robbins, from the mainland, will be the principal speakers. The Rev. J. W. Wadman, of Honolulu, is on Maui now, and he is to visit Laliaina, Central Maui and Hana. He is attending to his many mission stations and, at the same time, interesting people in the coming convention in Hono lulu. It is the hope of Mr. Wadman that many people may go to the capital city and attend the conven tion. Then, later on, the idea is to have Messrs Smith and Robbins visit Maui and the other islands of the group. Meetings will be held at central places, and an effort to raise interest in "Men and Re ligion" will be made. mi . 1 Lahaina News. Evening services are held this week nt Hale Aloha. The carpenters will be busy for several weeks. A large amount of lumber has been carried up to La hainaluna for the new dining hall and dormitory. A load of material for the new school house has arrived. Mr. White is building a power boat, in which he will made occasional trips to Lanai. Mr. George Gibb and family will sail for their future home on the large island, on Saturday- They will be very much missed in social circles here. The dinner in their honor at the Pioneer Hotel was nicely arranged by Dr. Burt.
