the original minds of first founders.
Along about 1830 Columbus,
Ohio, had a kindergarten which
holds the record for babies going
to school. Mary and Phoebe
Brooks, two old maids, conceived
the school and had it at their home.
Little girls and boys at the age of
two years were taught their letters
and to begin at spelling and read
ing. The Frandlin Chronicle says:
"The children of this school were
of such tender years that little cribs
were provided for them to take
their naps in."
ONLY TO BUSINESS COUPLES.
An uptown agent for small flats
and apartments says he lets only to
business couples, man and wife
who both go to business. Then
he says there is no trouble at all
during the day about complaints of
steam heat and hot water is not
used for laundry work or kept
running in the kitchen by the hour.
He has everything hot and cosy
about breakfast time and again in
the evening, but during the day,
except on Sundays and holidays,
the fires are kept low. He finds
there is a great saving in running
expenses ana can altord to let
ipartineiUs out for less than other
real estate men.

AINOTIIEIl SUN CUKE.
; I-rench physician in treating
consumption of the windpipe has
the sufferer face the sun with mouth
wide open. Then the doctor holds
a mirror the size of a twenty-five
cent piece back in the throat so
placed that the sun's rays are re
fleeted and shine down the wind
pipe. A large hat and blue glasses
protect the head and eyes from the
sun. treatment is kept up tor
from a half hour to an hour a day
Some of the patients treated say
they had lost the voice, but were
cured and remained cured for
several years. Consumptives trou
bled with painful swallowing were
relieved in a few weeks.
A COOKING PROCESS.
Other doctors place the patient
with back to the sun and use a con
cave mirror to throw the rays down
the patient's windpipe while hold
ing a small looking glass in the
throat. A concave mirror reflect
ing the rays of the sun if brought
to a focus on flesh comes pretty
nigh cooking it before a man knows
it. uuier doctors throw the rays
in the throat from an arc lamp.
They all claim cures, especially
with tuberculous ulcers and tumors.
SALT LAKE EGGS.
Egg Island in Great Salt Lake
the American Dead Sea, contains a
few acres of large rocks. Here
gulls, cormorants and herons build
nests. Cormorant's eggs here are
pale green or blue color and almost
covered with a chalky substance
After the eggs have been setting a
while they become spotted, and
about hatching time they have
entirely changed in appearance and
are as speckled and spotted as any
birds eggs ever seen. It is not
known for certain just why the
Egg Island new laid eggs are one
color, while those just ready to
hatch are all spotted.
