Tin- Henry lYriino liuldwin Me
morial organ which was shipped
from the Austin ( )igan Company, of
Hartford, Con ni'ticut, arrived yester
day morning on the Honolulan
Mr. J. E. Yarnum, the company's
agent, wl.io has heen employed hy
tlic Austin irople in the erection of
their large organs on the Pacific
Const, arrived on the same hoat.and
will begin erecting the organ as soon
as the forty-five cases of freight in
which the organ was shipped are
unpacked.
The organ is to he erected in the
south transept of the Union Church,
and will occupy the whole of the
space between the arch nearest the
pulpit to the wall. The ornamental
old gold pipes will fill the arch and
will also extend from the pillar to
thn transept wall of the building.
For the opening the concert,
on Juno 21st, an excellent musical
program is being prepared, under
the direction of Mrs. L. C. Jones,
by the church choir augumented by
several strong voices. "Gallia,"' a
wonderful piece of music on the
order of the great oratorios, but not
as long, is being rehearsed for the
first night the organ is to be used.
"Gallia" is one of Gounod's famous
works, and describes in inimitable
language and remarkable music, the
sorrow of the French people when
France ceded to Germany, Alsace
and Lorraine.
The composition is religious
throughout and, although somewhat
sad in its theme, is a remarkable
portrayal in music of the, deepest
feelings of a great nation at the
time of universal sorrow. Mrs. Jones
will, of course, carry the solo work,
and the chorus will be composed of
some fifteen voices.
Several organ numbers and one
or two vocal selections will make
i
the opening night for the new organ
a most attractive function.
