Convention
ot Engineers
"Under the auspices of the Ha
waiian Engineering Association,
the sugar mill engineers of the
Territory will hold a convention in
Honolulu during the later part of
October, to discuss various phases
of millwork. It is hoped to make
this convention an annual affair
very much on the same lines as the
annual meeting of the sugar plan
ters. There will be an afternoon and
an evening session on Monday,
October 20, and the following day
will be devoted to sightseeing or an
excursion of some sort. On Tues
day the annual banquet of the as
sociation will take place, preceded
by a meeting for the election of
officers for the ensuing year.
Those who have the planning of
the convention in charge have very
hope of making it of great benefit
to the engineers because of the op
portunity offered them to renew
acquaintances, interchange ideas
and to provide a little vacation for
the inemlers residing on the other
Islands after the present grinding
Season is ended. From the support
given tne movement by the man
agers of the plantations and the
accord with which the matter has
been taken up by the engineers
themselves, there seems toie every
prospect for a successful meeting
President Sliced y of the associa
tion has appointed a committee of
five to take charge of the meeting;
one mill engineer each from Oahu,
Maui and Kauai and two from
Hawaii, consisting of R. Renton
Hind, Ewa plantation, chairman;
II. McCubbin, Pioneer Mill; W.
W. Wscott, Hawaiian Sugar Com
pany; J, E. Kennedy, Hakalau
plantation, and James Ogg, Hawaii
an Agricultural Compsny.
As low sugar prices and hostile
tariff legislation demands greater
efficiency and lower cost in sugar
manufacture, there is no doubt but
what these annual meetings will be
productive of much good to not
only the members vitally interested
in sugar, but to their employers as
welll.
