HOW TO FIGHT CUTWORMS.
The extension division of the Ha
waii experiment station has recently
issued a formula for an excellent
poison for cutworms, which in some
Oisltict are exeedingly destructive
this year Thu following is sad to
be very efficacious:
For one acre mix 1 bushel (18 lbs.)
wheat bran and 1 bushel (32 lbs.)
wheat middlings, or cheap flour.
Moisten this mixture with 1 gal. of
water in which there has been dis
solved either 1 qt. of molasses or 2
lbs. of sugar. Add 1 lb. of Paris
Green, or 1 lb. of white arsenic (not
both) and mix It in thoroughly.
Place this bait on top of the ground
along the rows, not on the plants.
Remember that it is a deadly poison,
and will kill anything that gets it.
It cannot be used safely where there
is any danger that poultry or cattle
may get Into the field.
This great BEAR will appear at the Kahuliii Lyceum, Paia
,Urpiieum, fuunene Iheatre and Wailuku Urpheum next week. If
arrangements can be made, Bruin will also appear at Haiku.
His first appearance will be at the Paia Orpheum, on Saturday
hight, March 18, Monday at Haiku, Tuesday at the Kahului Lyceum,
Wednesday at Puunene, and Thursday at Wailuku Orpheum. A fine
program of motion pictures will be included in the performance.
Admission reserved seats 35 cents, general admission 25 cents,

Murderer Probably Dead.
Mollina, the much sought Spanish
murderer o f the watchman of the
Hutchinson Sugar Mill, on Hawaii, is
now thought to be dead. He has
been hunted by the police for almost
a year and although 'at first his trail
was a hot one it is thought. that the
frequent reports of' his being seen
are mere fables.
IRISH SONGS A FEATURE OF
8AINT PATRICK'S DANCE.
In connection with the St. Patrick's
dance to be given at the Alexander
House gymnasium this evening, a con'
cert has been arranged, at which Mrs,
L. C. Jones and Miss Helen Robinson
will appear as soloists. The girls'
glee club of the settlement will also
render a number of appropriate Irish
selections.
New Women's Class Organized
Beginning this week a new gymnas
ium class for women has been Inaug
urated for Friday morning. This
class will be in addition to the regu
lar Wednesday class, many of the
ladies of the community feeling that
once a week was not sufficient
COUNTY ENGINEER GOES
. TO CLAIM BRIDE
When County Engineer Joel D. Cox
returns to the Islands on the next
trip of the Great Northern, he will be
accompanied by a bride. Mr. Cox sail
ed by the same vessel from Honolulu
on Wednesday, and will be married
as soon as he reaches Fasadena.Call
fornia, to Miss Helen Horton, of that
place.
Miss Horton is a graduate of Stan
ford University and was one of the
leaders of the women students' activ
ities for a number of years. It was
while In college that she and Mr. Cox
became acquainted.
Mr. Cox and his bride expect to go
to housekeeping In the former W. H.
Engle cottage, Wailuku, Immediately
upon their arrival home.
. Japanese Eaten By Sharks.
Fugimori a Japanese, met with a
terrible death last week at Keauhou,
North Kona, Island of Hawaii, when
he was washed off the reef at night
time and torn to pieces by ravenous
sharks.
