r y ; , NVVS, FRIDAY, JAVj THE MAUI 5, 1917. FIVE laise Beans This Year, Say Longley laui Reds Bring Best Price In His toryOutlook Good For Another Year- -EggsShowUpwardTendency Epgs bave advanced slightly during Mo past week. The sale of Island Kultry during the past week has been cry good. The shortage of island t-,iri;pys forced people to buy more chickens and ducks, but still there were a good many cold storage turk pvs sold. There has not been much change In llip prices of green vegetables dur ing the past week. Limes have been very plentiful, and the prices ranges from 50c to 75c a hundred. Hogs nutl dressed meats remain about the same, and hides continue to bring rcrord prices. The only change in the feed prices for the week was an adv ance on middlings. Word has Just been received from Hie coast that the first shipment of Maul red beans brought $6 a hundred. This Is the highest price ever received for island red beans, and will net the shipper on his farm on Maui approx imately $5.25 a bag when shipped from Kahului Instead of first shipping to Honolulu by Inter-Island boats. If the present prices prevail the Kula farmer could raise no more profitable "crop than beans, and it is recommend ed that a large crop be planted this coming spring. The small white beans are also bringipg good prices, but it will not pay the K'ila farmers to raise large quantities of the calico beans as they are purely a local bean, and cannot be sold on the coast at a profit. The price of dry peas has also adv anced as they are in demand both in Honolulu and on the coast. Any farmer having beans for sale would do well to get In touch with the divi sion at the earliest possible time as the division, has orders for all the beans It can get. A. T.
