AT THE THEATERS
The Trouble Buster"
"Little Miss Merry," the rollicking.
mischievous, optimistic little girl who
draws you to the theater every time
her name appears on the boards, will
be with you again in her latest photo
play triumph, "The Trouble Busier."
You know her, everybody knows
her Vivian Martin needs no intro
duction. Sho is firmly established in
the hearts of the amusement lovers
of America. Remember her previous
triumphs? You can't forget such
success as "Her Father's Son," "The
Right Direction," "The Wax Model,"
"The Girl at Home," Little Miss Op
timist" and "The Sunset Trail," and
with "The Trouble Buster" she's go
ing to break right into the middle of
your heart. A masterful combination
of pathos, laughter and charm with
the sweetest little star in motion pic
tures. Vivian Martin, the girl with
personality plus, shows us all how
well a oung lady can get along in
the regalia of the sterner sex. Just
take another glance at the exhibition
date and bo on hand. If you miss
"The Trouble Buster" you'll have the
supreme pleasure of listening to your
friends talk about a lino picture in
which Vivian Martin wears boy s
clothes has all kinds of trouble and
fun and finishes up with a firm and
tighter grip on her admirers Or
pheum, Saturday next.
Theda Bara in
"Heart and Soul"
Theda Bara in "Heart and Soul", a
special super de luxe William Fox
photodrama will be shown nt the Or
pheum theater on Monday. The photo
play is founded on Sir Rider Hag
gard's book "Jess" and is filled with
thrilling action throughout.
The story tells of Jess (Theda
Bara) who when a child is taKon ny
her mother to the Hawaiian sugar
plantation of her uncle. Her mue
Bister, Bess, goes with her. Enroute
tho mother dies and exacts a promise
from Jess that she will always iook
out for the welfare of her younger
sister Bess.
When the girl grow to young wom
anhood Bess is wooed by Martin
nnimmond a cruel planter ana ren
egade whose estates border on that
of the girl'3 uncle. Bess spurns him
hoping to win the love ot jonn inicui,
a young American. Niehl pays little
attention to her as his love is for Jess.
Jess learns of her sister's love for
Niehl and recalling her vow to her
dying mother she leaves home to
overcome her own ueartureaK, leaving
Bess and Niehl to know each other
better.
BeBS still Burning Drummond is
captured by the latter who has start
ed a revolution against the United
States Government. Niehl goes to
rescue her but is wounded and cap
tured. With Jess he escapes and
they make their way back to her home
only to find it in the hands of Drum
mond. Jess faces a crisis. Should she
care for the wounded man Bhe loves
or go to her sister and rival? Duty
to her oath wins. She rides to a dis
tant fort and brings a detachment of
United States soldiers to the rescue.
Niehl meantime has been captured
egain by Drummond and with the
girl's uncle, ordered shot.
Just as the firing squad is about to
shoot. Jess returns with the Amer
ican troopers. Drummond mad with
hate, fires into the charging soldiers,
Jess falls and is taken to the house
dying. She places Bess' hand in
Niehl's and tells him to look after her
little sister. She dies smiling.
Drummond is later slain by a slave
boy whose hate he had earned by his
cruelty.
Devotes Her Life to
Righting Father's Wrong
Dedicating her life and her fortune
to making right a wrong done her na
tive town seventeen years before by
her father, a noble-minded young wo
man is fought at every turn by hatred
of her very name which has lasted all
these years. Aided only by tho young
minister and a few friends, she
finally sees love and charity triumph
in "An Alabaster Box," tho Greater
Vitagraph Blue Ribbon Feature
which will be the attraction in the
Wailuku theater on Sunday.
This tragically human story of a
village of hate was written by two of
the most famous woman authors in
the country, Mary E. Wilkins Free
man and Florence Morse Kingsley,
and is given by a cast of exceptional
strength made up of Alice Joyce,
Marc MacDermott, Harry Ham Patsy
de Forrest, and Frank Crane.
"The Pinch Hitter",
Stars Charles Ray
"A Corking baseball play" is the
way Rozeman Bulger, baseball expert
of the New York World, describes
"The Pinch Hitter," a Triangle pic
ture produced under the personal
supervision of Thomas H. Inco and
starring Charles Ray, which will be
exhibited at Wailuku theater Friday
next.
But tho baseball game is not the
only exciting situation in this comedy.
It sparkles with humorous episodes
which the author, C. Gardner Sull
ivan, has drawn from actual happen
ings of college life.
"This picture is one that every red
blooded American will enjoy," says
John K. Tener, president of the Na
tional League of Professional Base
ball Clubs, who witnessed "The Pinch
Hitter" at a private showing. "It is
fascinating because of its human
force, the naturalness of its character
in situation and its perfection of
baseball technique."
Sylvia Bremer, an Australian beau
ty, makes her debut on the screen as
leading woman for the start Other
members of the caste are Joseph J.
Dowling, Jerome Storm, Darrel Foss
and Louis Durham. The production
was directed by Victor L. Sehertzin
ger and photographed by Paul Eagler,
with art direction by Robert Brunton.
