We were favorably impressed with
the mineral wealth of Arizona iiy n
ircumstiince that occurred a few days
since. There was cask of crockery
-lauding on the sidewalk in Ironi l
he window of the railroad agent's
office. Wc know the cask contained
cmckery, and we know just where it
-tood, for we remember that agent go;
i. gou in the most trantio manner be
cause the cask nud those leaning upon
it shut out the sun light that should
imve shown upon his desk. Five men
leaned against that cask. Why will
men lean upon a cask, be it a whisky or
crockery cask that may be stauding
upon a sidewalk? They invariably
will, however. Two of the five stood
with their backs to the cask and whit
tied and spit, two o" hens rested on their
elbows, they didn't look tired either
and all four of them were listening to
No. C, who was reading -a letter in'
which thry nil appeared deeply inter
ested. It wns a letier about luininjr
maiters, of course, and spoke if rock
and ledges, gold and silver, assays, etc ,
and gave such glowing accounts of
what be had seen and what would be
discovered in some range of mountains
away down on the borders of Sonora,
that, although wc have never yet had
"the fever," , we felt like tlnowing
down the pen, grasping a pick, frying
pan and niece of bacon, nnd loivio.r
a prospecting trip. Notwithstand-
ing, the contents of that leiter gave
eveiy one of those five men to under
stand that they weie soon to become
bl-ated bondholders," and rivals in
wealth of Flood, Machey and Fair. It
didn't disturb them a bit; they leaned,
and leaned, and leaned upon that cask;
they whittled, and whittled aud spit,
and smoked; they took it all in as a
matter of course, and if it hadn't
happened that one of Lord & Wil
liams' men wanted to get a sauce di-h
out of that cask for an old lady who
was waiting, we believe those men
would have ben there jet, wiihoui
ever going home for meals. It wa
their coofness jn hearing of so much
wealth in store for them which led u
to decide that discoveries of the kind
were an every day matter; they didn't
appear to cure a continental about it.
and the only remark -that we heard
from them was, alter the letter was
closed, " Oh h 1, that's nothiu."'
Next Monday there will arrive in
