Tlio Tip-top Going Ahead.
Alex. Harris returned this morning from
the Tip-top mill site where he lias a contract
to make 73,000 bricks for the Tin-top Silver
i Mining Company, for winch he is to receive
IS per thousand. '1 lie null will be situn
ted about three miles below Jack Swilling's
house, and these bricks are intended for a
roasting furnace, setting the boiler and en
gine, etc.
Mr. Gillett let contract to Jack Swilling
for live hundred cords of wood while Alex,
was there. Several contracts have been let
for sinking shafts, etc.. and Mr. Gillette has
about thirty men at work on the mine
and about the mill site. Everything is rep
resented to be booming in that locality, and
the mill will Ik? up and running just as sown
as money and enterprise can jmhmIiIv bring
it from San Frncico and s-et it up. There
appears to be mere work and less foolish
ness about the operations at the Tip-top
than anything that has hitherto been under
taken on so huge a scale in Arizona. We
expect, within less than a year, to bo chron
icling the shipments of hundreds of tlious
sands per month from Humbug district.
The shipment of Peck bullion from the
A.thm mill for to-morrow morning is only
two lwrs. aggregating but $3.4 17.4-1, a fall

from the n cent tri-ueekly shipments.

John M. Shackelford, a native of Ken
tucky, aged seventy years, who has resided
on this coast for more than a quarter of a
century, died at his ranch on Duck Creek,
near the Upper Gila in Grant county, New
Mexeco, on the 1 7th of Septemlwr. He re
moved from Tcliaiua county, Cub, last rail,
with his family, and Iteing old and feeble,
found the trip a hard one, besides thu.lalMtr
incident to making a new home in a com
parative uiideme. overtaxed his strength,
and finally the excitement of the recent In
dian outrages in his neigh liorhootl proved
too much for his physical constitution and,
it is lielieved. hastened his death. Uncle
Johnny Shaekelford was well known
throughout the northern counties of Cali
forni as an honest, inxfieusive Christian
gentleman. He was n fust cousin to Gen.
John A. Shackelford of Kentucky.

Vok Alexandra.- -Messrs. Alexander and
Buifum sent out the teams of Fulton and
Crow, this morning, loaded to their fullest
extent with supplies for their store at that
place. With the development of several
rich leads in the vicinity of the Peck and
the wonderful productions of that mine and
the large iiuihIht of miners constantly join
ing hands with the pioneers of the district,
a large amount of goods is consumed at
their establishment in the llourishinir camp
Dock Smith came in from the Black War
rior last night, bringing with him a splen
did specimen of the ore from the bottom of
the 1 10-foot shaft. He says he made a blind
grab at the dump and took the piece that
iiis hand happened to light on. All the
comment we have to make is that his hand
happened to light on a very rich piece of
Mlwr ore. and if the average is like it the
owners have a fortune.
