.Pbebcott. Is very near the geographical
center of the Territory, and in many respects
the most attractive town or village therein,
haying a population of over 2,000 almost en
tirely white people. The town has nearly
r quite doubled in population the present
year, and the country around seems to be
equally prosperous. New and exceedingly.
rich mines are being discovered almost daily.
The "Bradsbaw" mountains some 40 miles
south are perhaps as rich a mineral country
as can be (bund on the continent. The new
and exceedingly rich "Peck Mining District"
is the north end ot the Bradsbaw range, and
by careful and exhaustive examination in the
district I feel compelled to say that it is not
inferior to any now known. The ores are
mostly silver, though at some points differ
ent lodes have been worked for gold, but in
almost all when work is carried to any depth
silver takes the place of gold. The silver
ores show well in ruby and in honi silver,
with rich carbonates, and in somo sufficient
galena to make them good furna e ores. The
noted "Peck mine" which on the surfnee
showed but a few inches in width, now at
fifty feet deep shows tico fett and over in
width, and th whole body assays far up into
the thousands of dollars per ton. Some
weeks since ten tons of this ore was sold
here for $18,000, which was no doubt far Ikj
low its real vnlue. Thirteen thousand
pound of the ore is now on the way to San
Francisco, and I have no doubt it will stir
up San Francisco capitalists very much.
